The Boston Red Sox are in a serious slump. As they lost their tenth straight game, their frustrations began to boil over as thy finished up a game against the Tampa Bay Rays.
This is a pair of two teams that do not like one another and a history of fighting. The two teams cleared their benches once again, this time as a result of a Yunel Escobar steal of third with two outs in the seventh inning and Tampa Bay carrying an 8-3 lead. (The play was ruled defensive indifference.)
Escobar could be seen shouting at the Red Sox dugout, where members of the visiting team had been voicing their displeasure of the stolen base. Escobar left third and made a move toward the dugout, at which time both benches cleared. Here is the video of the event.
This fight could have been much worse as the teams were separated before it got too heated. The world of Twitter chimed in during and after the brawl.
Sports Illustrated broke down the “stupid” brawl.
What’s worse than a 10-game losing streak for the Red Sox? How about a stupid brawl?! http://t.co/GTWbYzSOcY

John Tomase commented on how the frustration of losing, played a role in the brawl.
This was probably overdue. Ross angry angry at Escobar for taking third and the benches empty. Sox are still losing.

Pete Abraham got a quote from Red Sox outfielder Johnny Gomes, which summed up the event.
Gomes: "What really has to be said? I figured a hands-on approach was a little more appropriate.” #redsox #rays

Although the brawl stole the headlines, the bigger news was the fact that the defending champion Boston Red Sox are struggling to get the job done. The Red Sox odds to win the World Series this year are beginning to increase and the sports betting public are starting to favor other teams as noted by the top rated online sportsbook, BetOnline.
Red Sox +1000 to win the World Series again. Public likes: Orioles +3500, Rays +1100 & Mariners +2500. Odds> http://t.co/3wo2QEKp9x

The season is not over yet, but things are looking bleak for the Red Sox. This brawl could be the different maker in the season for this team as they try and turn the season around and make a run for another championship.
