Two of the best teams in the American League will meet in Major League Baseball betting action when the Detroit Tigers face the Texas Rangers Tuesday night at 8:05 ET at Globe Life Park in Arlington on MLBN. This will be the first of a three game series between these talented squads with the Tigers coming in as ‘favorites’ on the board.
The Tigers won their fourth game in a row on Sunday as they ran away with a 10-4 victory over the Cleveland Indians on the road. Second baseman Ian Kinsler was sensational going 3-for-5 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored. First baseman Miguel Cabrera also had a big night going 2-for-4 including his 13th homerun of the season as he had three RBI’s and two runs scored in the win. That was all ace pitcher Max Scherzer would need as he went 6.0 innings giving up just one run on six hits as he struck out eight batters. Left hander Drew Smyly will get the nod on Tuesday as he comes in with a 3-6 record to go with a 3.48 ERA in 68.1 innings of work. Smyly took a close loss in his last start as he threw 7.0 innings striking out six while surrendering just two runs on seven hits, but the team fell short 2-1 to the Kansas City Royals. Detroit’s offense scores 4.56 runs per game to rank fifth in the league thanks to a very powerful lineup. The ‘over’ is 23-9-1 in the Tigers L/33 games overall and that should happen again in this one.
The Rangers took a 5-2 loss to the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday as they continue to struggle to put runs on the board. First baseman Brad Snyder hit a solo homerun that was his second of the year, but the offense couldn’t muster much else the rest of the night. Center fielder Leonys Martin went 3-for-4 at the dish and a run scored in the loss. Texas’ ace Yu Darvish took the loss as he went 6.0 innings and gave up five total runs (four earned) as he recorded nine strikeouts. Rangers right handed pitcher Colby Lewis will get the start in this contest as he comes in with a 5-4 record on a balmy 5.97 ERA in 63.1 innings of action. Lewis got the win in his last outing even though he gave up five runs on 10 hits in 5.1 innings of work. Texas has been marred in a five game losing streak coming into this one and it will be looking to turn things around after being swept by the Angels over the weekend.
The Tigers have been knocking the cover off the ball lately and with Smyly on the mound they should definitely have the upper hand in this contest. We definitely like them to get the win behind a strong performance from their pitcher and another big night at the plate from one of the league’s most potent lineups. This is a clear case of two teams headed in opposite directions and we expect to see that trend continue on Tuesday night in Arlington.
