Two of the best teams in the American League will meet in Major League Baseball betting action when the Detroit Tigers face the Texas Rangers Wednesday night at 8:05 ET at Globe Life Park in Arlington on ESPN2. This will be the second of a three game series between these talented squads with the Tigers coming in as ‘favorites’ on the board.
The Tigers won their fifth straight on Tuesday night as they opened up this series with an 8-2 victory over the Rangers. Second baseman Ian Kinsler had a solid game as he drilled his ninth homerun of the season knocking in three RBI’s and a run scored. Right fielder J.D. Martinez hit his eighth homer of the year and finished with two RBI’s in the win. Pitcher Drew Smyly improved his record to 4-6 as he went 6.0 innings giving up just one run on five hits. On Wednesday right hander Annibal Sanchez will get the ball for Detroit as he looks to win his third straight start. Sanchez was spectacular in his last outing as he shut down the Kansas City Royals for 7.0 innings giving up a run on five hits. Detroit has one of the most deadly offensive lineups in the league scoring 4.60 runs per game. On the Tigers current winning streak they have been scoring 6.2 runs per game while their efficient pitching staff is giving up only three runs per contest.
The Rangers continued to struggle mightily to score any runs and they lost their sixth straight contest. Second baseman Leonys Martin was one of the few offensive bright spots for the home team as he went 1-for-2 at the plate and had an RBI. Third baseman Adrian Beltre had the other RBI that was his 36th of the season. Pitcher Colby Lewis had a respectable outing as he went 6.1 innings allowing four runs on nine hits to this powerful Tigers lineup, but he fell to 5-5 on the year. Texas will send left hander Joe Saunders to the hill as he is still looking for his first win of the season in six starts. Saunders was batted around in his last outing as he gave up seven runs on 10 hits in a 7-3 loss to the Los Angeles Angels. The Rangers are just 2-8 in their L/10 games as an ‘underdog’ and will need to wake up a sleeping lineup to have a chance in this contest.
The Tigers have been strong lately and they will look to continue the roll they’re on in the Lone Star state. We expect to see Detroit’s offense knock the ball all over the yard in Arlington and take another contest from Texas on the run-line. Sanchez has been great for the Tigers and will continue to be a rock for this pitching staff that has been lights out during a win streak that could help this team to the top of the AL standings.
