An American League match-up will be featured in Major League Baseball betting action when the Minnesota Twins face the Los Angeles Angels Thursday afternoon at 3:35 ET at Angel Stadium of Anaheim on FSN WEST. This Thursday night game will be the rubber match of a three game series with the Angels coming in as overwhelming ‘favorites’ to pull off the sweep.
The Twins are having a rough time in Los Angeles as they dropped Wednesday’s game 6-2 after struggling to get anything going offensively. Designated hitter Kendrys Morales had an RBI as he went 1-for-4 at the plate. Right fielder Oswaldo Arcia went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in the loss. Pitcher Yohan Pino was tattooed for five runs on seven hits as he only lasted 3.0 innings. Right hander Ricky Nolasco will try to reverse the trend as he gets the start for Minnesota and will attempt to get his record to 5-5 this season. Nolasco had a strong start in his last outing as he went 5.1 innings giving up two runs on six hits and the Twins took a 5-4 win at home over the Chicago White Sox. Minnesota is just 1-7 in its L/8 games as the ‘underdog’ and will need to hang in defensively for a chance at winning on Thursday. It would also help if the Twins 10th ranked offense that scores 4.26 runs per game could come to life and provide some help for a weak pitching staff that has given up a lot of runs lately.
The Angels got their fifth win in a row as they dominated the Twins for the second straight contest at home. Shortstop Erick Aybar had a big day as he was 2-for-3 at the dish with an RBI and a run scored. Designated hitter C.J. Cron was 2-for-4 as he also had an RBI and a run scored in the win. Pitcher Garrett Richards was lights out as he gave up just two runs on four hits in 7.1 innings of work as he struck out five and ran his record to 8-2 on the year. Ace right hander Jared Weaver will take the mound for Los Angeles as he comes in with a 3.47 ERA and a record of 7-6 this season. In his last outing Weaver went 8.0 innings allowing just one run on four hits in a 3-2 win over the Texas Rangers. The Angels have been outstanding at home of late as they have a 23-8 record in their L/31 contests in Anaheim. Every game is big for them right now as they are chasing the Oakland Athletics for the top spot in the AL West standings.
The Angels are going for their second consecutive three game sweep and are one of the hottest teams in the American League at the moment. Weaver hasn’t had his best season so far, but he has shown signs of turning things around. Minnesota doesn’t pose much of a threat offensively right now and that is why we like Los Angeles to finish off this sweep at home.
