An American League East battle will be featured in Major League Baseball betting action when the Tampa Bay Rays travel to face the New York Yankees Monday night at 7:05 ET on ESPN at Yankee Stadium. This will be the first of a three game series between these two rivals with the Yankees coming in as ‘favorites’ on the board.
The Rays got the offense cranked up as they took three of four on the road against the Baltimore Orioles over the weekend. On Sunday a 12-7 win gave Tampa Bay a huge lift that they’re hoping is the beginning of a turnaround to get back in the division race. In a game where the Rays belted four home runs, outfielder Matt Joyce knocked two out of the park as he finished with four RBI and three runs scored. Second baseman Ben Zobrist went deep as well as he went 3-for-6 at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored. Pitcher Alex Cobb went 5.0 innings giving up four runs on eight hits as he collected just his third win of the season. On Monday right hander Chris Archer will take the mound for Tampa Bay as he comes in with a 3.29 ERA in 93.0 innings of work. Archer was ripped in his last outing as the Pittsburgh Pirates took him for five runs on seven hits and he took a 6-5 loss at home. The Rays are just 3-9 in their L/12 games as the ‘underdog’ and will need a big outing from their ace to have a chance in New York.
The Yankees were unable to pull out a comeback win as they fell 8-5 to the Boston Red Sox on Sunday night. First baseman Mark Teixeira hit his 15th homerun of the year a solo shot that started New York’s rally. Designated hitter Carlos Beltran had a big night at the plate going 3-for-4 including a homerun as he ended up with an RBI and a run scored. Pitcher Chase Whitley made it only 4.0 inning giving up five runs on eight hits as he took the loss. Right hander David Phelps will get the start for New York as he comes in with a 3-4 record and a 4.35 ERA in 70.1 innings on the hill. He was shelled in his last outing as the Toronto Blue Jays managed six runs on eight hits as he took a 7-6 loss north of the border. The Yanks are third the AL East, but they have stumbled of late going 2-6 in their L/8 games. This is a big series for them as they try to keep Boston and Tampa Bay below them in the standings.
The Rays are fully capable of pulling out a road win in this one with their ace on the mound to start the series. Tampa Bay is 12-5 in the L/17 meetings and they have had success in the past playing in New York. We feel as if some money can be made on the Rays here as Archer will have a solid outing and lead his team to a win in the Big Apple. Take Tampa Bay to get the job done on Monday night as it will begin an attempt to get back in the AL East race.
