It’s the final week of the Major League Baseball regular season. Both Wildcard races are wide open right now. When Major League Baseball changed it to two Wildcard spots in each league, they certainly opened the door for more drama in the final days. It’s just the way they want it. This is the time of the year where some teams are just playing out the string as they are ready for the offseason and others are fighting with everything they have. Expect to see some big lines this week.
-The Royals and Indians play in an extremely important series in Cleveland this week. They’ll finish a game that was suspended, then start a new series. The Royals are 0-6 in their last 6 games following a win, so inconsistency has been the name of the game for them of late. The Indians are 5-1 in their last 6 and trying to make a late push.
-Pittsburgh has caught fire late in the season. The Pirates are 13-3 in their last 16 games overall. Pittsburgh is 6-1 in their last 7 road games. The Braves were great early in the year, but they have been awful of late. Atlanta is out of the race completely, and they are 1-8 in their last 9 games overall. The under is 47-21-4 in the last 72 meetings between these two teams.
-The Angels are in Oakland this week for a series. This once looked like it would be a critical series for the AL West lead. Instead, the Angels got red hot and the A’s fell apart. Still, this series means a ton to Oakland. Oakland is 3-8 in their last 11 home games. They are 7-16 in their last 23 overall. The Angels are 19-7 in their last 26 road games.
-The Washington Nationals got red hot at the right time. Washington is 28-11 in their last 39 games. Can they keep playing that way in the postseason? Time will tell. They host the New York Mets this week. The Nationals are 14-4 in their last 18 home games. The Mets are 4-0 in their last 4 road games, and this is a team that is battling all the way to the end despite their lack of anything to play for. The Mets are 14-43 in their last 57 meetings with the Nationals.
-The Brewers are hanging onto small hopes of making the playoffs, but they must get hot this week. Milwaukee is 2-12 in their last 14 road games. Fortunately for them, they’ll be playing against a Cincinnati Reds team that is playing some terrible baseball. The Reds are 1-6 in their last 7 games overall. They are 0-7 in their last 7 following a day off. They are off on Monday. The under is 33-16-2 in the last 51 meetings between these teams.
-The Detroit Tigers look to stay ahead in the AL Central. They host the Chicago White Sox this week. The White Sox are 4-11 in their last 15 road games. The White Sox are 10-27 in their last 37 in Detroit. The Tigers are 6-1 in their last 7 home games.
