Wednesday represents a standard sports night in the month of May with playoff action in the NBA and NHL to go along with a full slate of MLB action. There are some day games in Major League Baseball today with some west coast series wrapping up in the mid-afternoon, but the majority of the schedule will be played under the lights. The NBA has two playoff games on tap as the Washington Wizards and Atlanta Hawks play Game 5 with an 8 p.m. ET tip and the Memphis Grizzlies and Golden State Warriors are back in action at 10:30 p.m. ET. A huge Game 7 between the Washington Capitals and New York Rangers may be the highlight of today’s sports menu.

Here are the top sports betting trends for May 13:

MLB: Boston Red Sox at Oakland Athletics (3:35 p.m. ET)

Trend: Play over in Oakland home games. The over is 13-1 (+12.4 units) this season.

After a 9-2 win over Justin Masterson and the Red Sox on Wednesday night, the A’s chalked up another winner on the over side. The A’s utilize a platoon advantage as much or more than every other team in baseball and it factors into their offensive performance against all pitchers. It’s especially true of their performance against righties. With a lack of big names, perception is low on the A’s lineup, but they’re a very solid group. Wednesday’s getaway day total between Wade Miley and Sonny Gray is 7.

Bonus Trend: Play against Oakland using the money line in day games. The A’s are 1-10 (-11 units) this season.

NBA: Washington Wizards at Atlanta Hawks (8:00 p.m. ET)

Trend: Play on Atlanta using the money line in home games with a total between 195 and 199.5 points. The Hawks are 16-2 (+13.9 units) over the last two seasons.

The Hawks are an eight-point favorite for Game 5 as the Wizards hit the floor without John Wall once again. This line seems a little bit high given the context of the series and how much the Hawks struggled to put the Wizards away in Game 4. But, the Hawks have fared well in games played at this projected pace, so oddsmakers may be taking that into account.

Bonus Trend: Play under in Atlanta home playoff games. The under is 35-12 (+21.8 units) since 1992.

Bonus Trend 2: Play on Atlanta against the spread when playing a team with a winning record. The Hawks are 27-12 (+13.8 units) this season.

MLB: Chicago White Sox at Milwaukee Brewers (8:10 p.m. ET)

Trend: Play against Chicago in road games against right-handed starters. The White Sox are 2-10 (-13.95 units) this season.

The White Sox picked up a rare road win over the Brewers on Tuesday night, but they got their winning runs off of the bullpen. Mike Fiers pitched well against the White Sox. On Wednesday, the White Sox will take their swings against Jimmy Nelson. Nelson is a prime case for positive regression, so he could be a good bet. Jose Quintana takes the hill for the White Sox.

MLB: Colorado Rockies at Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (10:05 p.m. ET)

Trend: Play against Colorado in road interleague games. The Rockies are 4-16 (-17.9 units) over the last three seasons.

The Rockies were bested 5-2 on Tuesday night by the Angels to drop yet another road interleague game. The Rockies are now 7-9 on the road this year after posting a 21-60 road record last season. They have dropped 10 straight games to fall to 11-18. Jordan Lyles faces Hector Santiago on Wednesday night.

Bonus Trend: Play against Colorado in road night games. The Rockies are 18-51 (-30.33 units) over the last two seasons.

NBA: Memphis Grizzlies at Golden State Warriors (10:30 p.m. ET)

Trend: Play on Memphis using the money line in road games against Pacific Division opponents. The Grizzlies are 15-5 (+15.15 units) over the last two seasons.

The Grizzlies took Game 2 on the road in this series and are hoping for a similar result in Game 5. Golden State is favored by 9.5 points, so the Grizzlies face long odds for the upset. But, Memphis’s style of play has been a problem for Golden State throughout this series, so an upset may not be as difficult as it appears based on the line.

Bonus Trend: Play under in Memphis games versus poor defensive teams allowing 99 or more points per game in the second half of the season. The under is 21-8 (+12.2 units) this season.

MLB: St. Louis Cardinals at Cleveland Indians (6:05 p.m. ET)

Trend: Play over in Cleveland home games against a team with a winning record. The over is 9-0 (+9.05 units) this season.

Another Indians game flew over the total due to shoddy defense and bad bullpen pitching. Jose Ramirez’s error led to four unearned runs in the eighth inning to send another Tribe game flying over the total. Corey Kluber faces John Lackey on Wednesday night with a total of 7.5.

MLB: San Diego Padres at Seattle Mariners (10:10 p.m. ET)

Trend: Play against San Diego using the money line in road games against teams with a losing record. The Padres are 11-24 (-22.25 units) over the last two seasons.

The Padres and Mariners wrap up their brief two-game set on Wednesday night. Seattle hammered San Diego on Tuesday night with the help of six home runs. Odrisamer Despaigne and Roenis Elias were supposed to start in this game, but both teams have shuffled their rotations. It will now be James Shields against Taijuan Walker and the game is a virtual money line pick ‘em.

MLB: Miami Marlins at Los Angeles Dodgers (7:50 p.m. ET)

Trend: Play over in Los Angeles Dodgers home games. The over is 60-33 (+27.1 units) over the last two seasons.

The Dodgers and Marlins comfortably went over the total on Tuesday night thanks to an 11-run outburst from the Dodgers. The lone Miami highlight was Giancarlo Stanton’s titanic home run that left Dodger Stadium. In any event, the Dodgers score a lot of runs at home and they’ll take their cuts against Jarred Cosart in this one. Carlos Frias will take the mound for the home team.

Bonus Trend: Play on the Dodgers in home games. The Dodgers are 12-4 (+10.55 units) this season.

NHL: Washington Capitals at New York Rangers (7:30 p.m. ET)

Trend: Play on New York using the money line in games versus division opponents. The Rangers are 30-11 (+17.45 units) this season.

The Rangers and Capitals meet in a winner-take-all Game 7 with a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals on the line. The winner will take on the Tampa Bay Lightning in the next round. The Rangers are a big home favorite after Washington failed to close out the series in Games 5 and 6.
