Thursday’s betting card may be the shortest of the year to date. The only sport on the docket is baseball. The NHL Conference Finals have two Game 7, winner-take-all matchups coming up on Friday and Saturday, but Thursday is a break and a travel day. The NBA won’t resume until June 4 when the Finals begin. Play begins at the AT&T Byron Nelson on the links, but there aren’t going to be any trends about that. It’s a small slate of games, but there’s still money to be made by following these MLB betting trends for May 28.

Here are the top sports betting trends for May 28:

MLB: Boston Red Sox at Texas Rangers (8:05 p.m. ET)

Trend: Play against Texas using the money line in games at home when the total is 9 or 9.5. The Rangers are 16-42 (-28.35 units) over the last two seasons.

The Rangers head home after wrapping up a 7-2 road trip to get back into the hunt in the AL West. They send Nick Martinez to the mound against Eduardo Rodriguez, who will be making his first MLB start. This game is essentially a money line pick ‘em with both teams on the vig side in the betting market.

Bonus Trend: Play against Texas using the run line in all home games when the total is 9 or 9.5. The Rangers are 17-41 (-29.1 units) over the last two seasons.

Bonus Trend 2: Play under in Boston games in May. The under is 17-6 (+10.65 units) this season.

MLB: Atlanta Braves at San Francisco Giants (10:15 p.m. ET)

Trend: Play on San Francisco using the money line in May games. The Giants are 38-16 (+23.7 units) over the last two seasons.

The Giants cannot lose. Ryan Vogelsong got in the act and threw a gem for the road team on Wednesday as they swept the Milwaukee Brewers. The Giants head home to take on the Atlanta Braves with Chris Heston on the mound against Shelby Miller. Early betting money has come in against Miller and on the hottest team in baseball.

MLB: New York Yankees at Oakland Athletics (10:05 p.m. ET)

Trend: Play against Oakland using the money line in home games. The A’s are 6-16 (-14.7 units) this season.

Another loss at home in the series finale against the Detroit Tigers drops Oakland to 6-16 at Coliseum. They’re playing about as bad as the plumbing. The A’s open up a new series against the visiting New York Yankees, who just swept the Kansas City Royals at home. CC Sabathia has gotten some money in the betting market for this game against Kendall Graveman.

Bonus Trend: Play over in Oakland home games. The over is 16-6 (+10.15 units) this season.

MLB: Cleveland Indians at Seattle Mariners (10:10 p.m. ET)

Trend: Play under in Seattle home games against a team with a losing record. The under is 36-14 (+19.7 units) over the last two seasons.

James Paxton throws left-handed, so the betting market will immediately go against the Indians in this game, even though Corey Kluber is on the mound and Yan Gomes has returned behind the plate. The total is sitting at 6.5 for this one, even though Kluber will be taking on a lineup filled with left-handed batters. Kluber could face a hostile crowd after he won the Cy Young over Felix Hernandez last season.
