Welcome to August, the month in which the hype that builds for an onrushing football season reaches a crescendo. Optimism abounds and reality is but a myth that will be confirmed or busted at a later date.
As usual, the conference race is seen as pretty wide open with half the teams having odds of 10-1 or less. Florida Atlantic is a slight favorite over North Texas, but Marshall, Florida International, Southern Miss, UAB, and Louisiana Tech aren’t far behind.
Six of the seven teams in the division have claimed the Coastal crown and made it to the ACC Championship Game, and the one team that has yet to do it is the media favorite to win the division this year.
Business as usual looks to be the theme in the Mountain West Conference. At least that’s what the odds are saying. The reality is that there are a lot more questions than answers for just about every team in this conference this season.
Aside from the “Big Four” in the East, the rest of the division is in another tier if you will, with Indiana, Maryland, and Rutgers being programs to which a bowl appearance is considered a successful season.
There are still several punching bags in the conference for the top teams to take turns beating up, but there is a chance that the top comes down and the bottom comes up and chaos gets created in Sun Belt.
