Pretty small schedule of college basketball games tonight, so we’ll have fairly small differences between our projections and the lines, so we’ll see what we can do here.
Mercer at North Texas: Mercer is favored by 2 and the total has just climbed to 141.5, while I have Mercer coming away with a 75-72, so will take the over in this one. Mercer is averaging 75.6 points per game and is a decent shooting team, knocking down 47.8% from the field and does particularly well when shooting long range, as they connect on 39.% on their 3-pointers. They do hit 75.7% from the foul line, so a pretty good shooting team all around. On defense, Mercer allows 43.3% shooting, although part of that has to do with their opposition, as Mercer’s foes average 43.3% shooting on the season, so they’re essentially an average defense.
North Texas was pretty much an average shooting team and scored 73.4 points per game, and 78.1 points per game at home, while allowing 71.6 points per game. North Texas did defend the 3-pointer a little bit, holding foes to a shade under 33% although they haven’t faced a team that can hit from the outside quite like Mercer can. It probably won’t be a shootout, but think the teams can combine for enough points to send this one over the total.
Jacksonville State vs. Central Arkansas: Jacksonville State is a small road favorite in this one, where the total has climbed to 150.5 in a game featuring contrasting styles, as Jacksonville State will slow things down a little bit and Central Arkansas likes to play at a faster tempo. I have Jacksonville winning this one 80-75, so will have to tab the over in this one, as well. Both teams shoot the ball fairly well, although Jacksonville State is better on defense, holding foes to just over 40% shooting, while Central Arkansas allows more points than their foes average, but should be able to dictate the pace a little bit in front of the home crowd. Central Arkasnas likes to launch the 3-pointer and average 23 per game and are pretty solid from the foul line.
Eastern Michigan at Sam Houston State: The total on this one is just 135.5 and I have it at 136, but can see this one landing under the total. But I do have Sam Houston State as a side wager and don’t want to have two wagers going on a game involving teams who aren’t that great, so will just have a lean on the under, but nothing more.
