Updated 2019 Big 12 Conference Football Odds

The Oklahoma Sooners enter 2019 as the team to beat, while Texas and Iowa State are given a fighting chance of capturing the Big 12 Conference before we get to gap and have teams like Baylor, Oklahoma State and TCU, who should have decent teams but appear to be a notch or two below the likes of the Sooners and Longhorns.

The Sooners welcome quarterback Jalen Hurts and have highly touted freshman receiver Jadon Haselwood. Alex Grinch takes over as defensive coordinator after spending the past few years at Washington State and Ohio State.

Since there are no separate divisions in the Big 12, 5Dimes offers conference championship odds and also offers the next best thing, which is odds to advance to the Big 12 title game. Since the Sooners are likely to be prohibitive favorites in the Big 12 Championship game, those odds are quite a bit less than of the odds for winning the Big 12 for everybody except Oklahoma.

Iowa State has become a bit of a trendy pick to win the Big 12, and have moved all the down from +1100 to +700 since we first looked at the betting odds a month ago. I didn’t think there was much value on Iowa State at +1100, let alone +700, although the Cyclones may surprise me here.

Here are the updated odds from 5Dimes as of Aug. 26.

Odds to Win the 2019 Big 12 Championship

Team Odds
Oklahoma -150
Texas +400
Iowa State +700
Baylor +1325
TCU +1500
Oklahoma State +2500
Texas Tech +4000
Kansas State +4500
West Virginia +5000
Kansas +5500

Not only did Iowa State see a decent drop in odds, several other teams also saw their odds get lowered a little bit in the past month, with Baylor dropping from +1500 to +1325, while the Horned Frogs moved from +1800 to +1500. Oklahoma State went the other direction, going from +1800 to +2500, while there was a little bit of shuffling among the true long shots of the conference.

Odds to Reach the 2019 Big 12 Championship Game

Team Odds
Oklahoma -600
Texas +125
Iowa State +275
Baylor +425
TCU +460
Oklahoma State +600
Texas Tech +1000
Kansas State +1400
West Virginia +1800
Kansas +5500

It’s kind of hard to get excited about the odds of the middle-of-the-pack teams, as +100 on somebody like Texas Tech isn’t necessarily a great wager, so I’d probably stick to the top teams and can see Texas at +125 a fair wager, while Iowa State will again be attracting a little bit of sharp action to reach the title game, but have to believe the Longhorns make the most sense here. The Cyclones did move from +300 to +275 and if you do happen to like Iowa State, this may be the way to go, since the Cyclones are most likely going to be decent underdogs against Oklahoma if they reach the championship game.
