The NBA Trade Deadline has come and gone, so it’s time to take a look at the updated odds to win the NBA Championship. There was some shuffling among the teams, but the upper part of the odds list remains unchanged.
The Los Angeles Lakers and Milwaukee Bucks are the favorites to meet for the NBA title, with the Los Angeles Clippers right behind. There’s a pretty big drop in the odds before you get to the Houston Rockets, who are No. 4 on the odds board.
The other thing that has changed is the top teams are no longer Eastern Conference heavy, as just Milwaukee and the upgraded Miami Heat the only East teams in the top seven. Boston and Philadelphia are No. 8 and No. 9, giving the East four teams in the top 10.
The Lakers and Bucks were both relatively quiet in the trade deadline. There were reports the Lakers were trying to get Marcus Morris, who ended up going to the Clippers. Morris won’t see as much playing time for the Clippers, but he does add some nice depth to the team.
For Milwaukee, remaining pat at the deadline was a smart move. They have a seven-game lead over the Raptors for the No. 1 spot. There’s no need to alter the chemistry of the team. The Bucks are -140 to win the Eastern Conference for a reason.
It makes sense for the Lakers to try and get Morris, both for what he would bring to their team, as well as to keep him from going to the Clippers.
The team with the most visibility at the trade deadline was the Miami Heat, who added Andre Iguodala and Jae Crowder. But Miami gave away Justise Winslow, so not sure how much better they really are.
Denver and Houston were also active at the deadline, but it remains to be seen how much better either team will really be. You can see the logic behind the moves of both teams.
Some of the biggest moves involved players going to and from teams going nowhere in the playoffs.
These are the current odds to win the 2019-20 NBA championship at 5Dimes as of Feb. 7:
|Los Angeles Lakers||+260|
|Los Angeles Clippers||+325|
|Portland Trail Blazers||+15000|
|New Orleans Pelicans||+22500|
|Oklahoma City Thunder||+30000|
|San Antonio Spurs||+50000|
|Golden State Warriors||+500000|
|New York Knicks||+999900|
The only wager we have going for us is Denver at +1800 and the Nuggets are still there. Denver did lose Malik Beasley and his scoring, but the Nuggets will be fine. They also helped themselves in the future with their moves.
