Why the Ravens will win the Superbowl:

The Ravens have really grown and flourished as a team that is more noticed by its offense and not the defense. While the defensive mainstays are still in Baltimore it is the offense and the ability to put up some numbers that has defined this team in 2009 and allowed them to make the playoffs and have a shot at the big game.

The offense of this team is clicking and it’s led by Joe Flacco. He has thrown for over 3500 yards this year and is growing in his position. He is getting better every year and has shown that he can move the ball down the field against any defense and light up the scoreboard with any offense. This helps the ground game and they don’t need much help with that.

Ray Rice is another young player that has really come into his own. It was not too long ago that this backfield was a running back by committee and three backs shared the carrying load. This year Ray Rice played well enough to be the main man in Baltimore. He rushed for over 1300 yards and has given the good balance to this offense and made the Ravens a contender for the title.

This defense is still scary. While they are not the same defense of a few years ago, they still have Ray Lewis and Ed Reed. If they remain healthy this team can win ball games in the post season. They rank 6th in the NFL in takeaways and can turn the ball over on any play changing the face of the game.

Why the Ravens will not win the Superbowl:

This team is good but they have trouble staying healthy. On both sides of the ball they have had injuries that are pivotal to this team. That means that they are playing key players that are vulnerable to injuries at any given moment. Ed Reed, Derrick Mason, and Terrell Suggs are just a few of the all-stars that this time would have trouble without if they went down.

Youth is not on the side of this team especially on defense. Ray Lewis and Ed Reed are two of the scariest guys to ever play defense but even time will catch up with them. They do not bring the same intimidation to the game that they used to and this allows offensives to game plan to attack this defense and not avoid it.

This is a good offense but they have trouble protecting the quarterback. They rank 22nd in the league in keeping the quarterback off of his back and that leads to turnovers or worse injuries. If they can’t protect Flacco then they will not be able to set up the run and they will have trouble against teams that can put pressure on the quarterback.

This team is just 2-5 on the road this season and they will not have a home game in the playoffs. They have struggled on the road mightily to include losing to the Bengals, Colts and Patriots this season. The Colts game was at home but it just goes to show that the Ravens have trouble on the road and have struggled against teams in the playoffs this season. That is a recipe for disaster when it comes to backing a team to win it all.

Current Odds from Diamond Sportsbook for the Baltimore Ravens in the Playoffs

Odds to win the AFC: 14/1

Odds to win the Superbowl: 28/1

Prediction: The Ravens will not win the Superbowl or the AFC.

The odds are nice for the Ravens to win the AFC or the Superbowl, but they are that high for a reason. The reason is that this team is a long shot to win it all or even a game in the playoffs.

The offense looks much better but they are still very young and Flacco is prone to mistakes and will have to avoid pressure in the playoffs since the offensive line has had troubles all season keeping him protected. That could make for a very long day for Flacco.

Winning on the road is tough but they would have to beat some quality opponents as the AFC is full of great teams and full of teams that beat them in the regular season. This will be a good year overall for the Ravens but don’t look for them to advance in the post season.
