Week number three in the National Football League has come and gone but not without some great games and some surprising results. The Eagles led by Donovan Mcnabb made a splash by proving to the league that they have not folded, while other teams like the Saints and St. Louis have fans thinking of what might have been already early in the season.

Beyond the Line: This week’s beyond the line I want to take a look at betting the money line when it comes to backing the underdog in the NFL. This was a week where you could have had plenty of pushes. Miami, Minnesota and Miami were just a few of the teams that could have gotten you a push so for this discussion about money lines we will remove them. If you look at the underdogs that cashed you would have seen that five out of seven of those teams won outright. This would lead you to believe that if you had taken every one of these dog teams against the spread and on the money line you would have finished a robust 12-2. Keep in mind that these were only the winning dogs and not the losers, so there is still the trick of picking the dogs that will cover ATS, but leads evidence that you may want to consider taking underdogs on the money line as well as ATS when taking them. Since the money line is a higher return even your losers will be eaten up by some of the money line winners you get on the dogs that win outright.
The injury bug has bitten: Whether you are an avid player with a fantasy football league of if you wager on games, or are just a fan you always have to keep an eye on the injury report. This week was a tough week for some great players. Stephen Jackson the Rams superstar running back will not play in this week’s upcoming game and will be replaced by rookie running back Bryan Leonard. In Minnesota it looks like that Kelly Holcomb will get the start at home against the Packers. This is just the start as other key players like Jake Delhomme were hurt in the game against the Falcons and Brian Westbrook was hurt in the game against Detroit. Keep your eye on the injury list updates throughout the week to see who will play and who will sit.

Fantasy impact players from Week Two: The Quarterbacks ruled the roost this week when it comes to players that had great statistical weeks. Tom Brady and Donovan Mcnabb led the league with four touchdowns each but when it comes to yardage it was not hard to find a QB that did not throw for at least three hundred yards and in the cas of Jon Kitna, he threw for over four hundred yards passing. In all nine QB’s threw for over 300 yards.

Week 4 Game to watch: This week’s big game to watch will be when Denver visits the Colts. This will be a true test for the Broncos who were upset by the Jaguars in last weeks game and may have had one eye on the Colts. They get a chance to prove they can play with the elite teams of the AFC when they take on Peyton Manning and the Colts. The Colts opened up as 9 point favorite over Denver. In a surprising side note this week has a whopping number of home dogs as nine teams will be getting points at home.
