This week turned into a week where the undefeated New Orleans Saints almost got the first loss of the season. They had to dig out of as big hole in the second half but the Redskins managed to give the game to the Saints and allow them to stay unbeaten on the year. The skins missed a late field goal and then turned over the ball in overtime and that was enough for the Saints to go 12-0. The win clinched a playoff spot for the Saints but they want to stay unbeaten on the season.
On another note the Colts manhandled the red-hot Titans and managed to stay perfect but for some reason they don’t get the attention they truly deserve. The Saints are getting all the attention and that is most likely okay for Peyton Manning and the Colts as they try to finish the season without a blemish in the loss column.
The other big story this week in the NFL was upsets and there were plenty of them. Not only were there upsets but the good teams fell down and fell down hard. The Patriots traveled to Miami after losing to the Saints on Monday. They built a big lead but could not hold it as they lost in the waning minutes to the home team Dolphins. In Arizona, Brett Favre and the Vikings took a one loss team to the desert and got walloped as Kurt Warner put on a show and the Cardinals to an easy victory holding Adrian Peterson to just 19 yards rushing. These were some of the better upsets in the league this week but the best was yet to come.
On the road in Pittsburgh the Oakland Raiders shocked the world and upset the defending champion Pittsburgh Steelers. The Raiders had a late drive to seal the game and hand the Steelers the fourth loss in a row and now the Steelers are in danger of missing the playoffs. This was by far the biggest upset of the week as the Raiders were 13 point underdogs.
With the dogs winning it was a very good week for the sportsbooks. The favorites feel all over the board with only the Eagles being a popular pick that won and covered the big number. Other teams covered but underdogs reigned supreme and even staged back door covers in Cleveland and in Cincinnati. Will this trend persist this week or will the favorites and the public rebound?
