2010 Final NFL ATS Power Rankings (through 12/28/10)

1: Detroit Lions (11-4 ATS, 5-10 SU) - Back to back road wins? Say it ain't so, Detroit? Good thing for the Lions that they are really getting used to the idea of playing with whatever quarterback is under center, as the switch back to QB Shaun Hill didn't seem to make much of a difference against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. The oddsmakers have finally caved and made the Lions favorites in Week 17, but it really didn't make all that much of a difference. This team already did its major damage in the march towards greatness against the NFL odds.

2: Atlanta Falcons (10-5 ATS, 12-3 SU) - Call off the celebrations at least for the time being in the Peach State. The Falcons were knocked off by the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football, which still leaves them either a win or a New Orleans loss away from clinching a first round bye in the playoffs and the No. 1 overall seed in the conference. QB Matt Ryan lost for just the second time at home in his career, and we tend to think that there is no way that he loses two in a row in back to back weeks, especially knowing that this one in Week 17 is coming against the lowly Carolina Panthers.

3: St. Louis Rams (10-5 ATS, 7-8 SU) - The Rams did what they needed to do on Sunday and eliminated the San Francisco 49ers from playoff contention, which set up the do or die situation against the Seattle Seahawks at Qwest Field for the NFC West title in Week 17. Either way, this has been a remarkable season for St. Louis, and it catches a break this weekend, knowing that QB Matt Hasselbeck is most likely out for the game. Head Coach Steve Spagnuolo should be considered for Coach of the Year honors even though he probably won't win them.

4: Tampa Bay Buccaneers (9-5-1 ATS, 9-6 SU) - Head Coach Raheem Morris was telling his men several weeks ago that the race was to get to ten wins. Unfortunately, that probably isn't going to be enough for Tampa Bay to get into the playoffs. The Bucs need a win and a heck of a lot of help to get into the second season, but one way or the other, there is nothing to droop heads about in the Sunshine State. This was a team that really fought its butt off all year long to get to this point, and just to be in the playoff discussions with a week to play after beating the NFL spreads against the Seattle Seahawks last week is something to be proud of.

5: New England Patriots (9-5-1 ATS, 13-2 SU) - Sunday proved to be nothing more than a coronation for the kings of the AFC, and it was most likely also the coup de grace in an MVP season for QB Tom Brady. The Pats covered their ninth spread of the season and locked up the AFC East title and the No. 1 overall seed in the playoffs that goes with it. Now, they can essentially take the week off if they want to, as the Miami Dolphins are coming to town in a game that means absolutely nothing to either side.

6: Jacksonville Jaguars (9-6 ATS, 8-7 SU) - The J-A-G-U-A-R-S Jaguars are in T-R-O-U-B-L-E Trouble! It turns out that Jacksonville's loss to the Washington Redskins really meant nothing to the hosts, as it still needs a win and a loss by the Indianapolis Colts in Week 17 to get into the playoffs anyway, but it would have been nice to at least have kept some sort of pressure on Indy to win at the Oakland Raiders later in the day. The big question right now is whether QB Trent Edwards can guide this team to a win against the Houston Texans on Sunday to at least keep some faint playoff hopes alive.

7: Pittsburgh Steelers (9-6 ATS, 11-4 SU) - It feels like forever ago that the Steelers beat the Carolina Panthers on Thursday Night Football, but they got the job done that they set out to do and moved just one game away from winning the AFC North and clinching a first round bye in the playoffs. Anything less than a 'W' or a Baltimore Ravens loss would send the black and gold on the road for the postseason, something that they absolutely cannot afford if they hope to make a return trip to the Super Bowl.

8: Green Bay Packers (9-6 ATS, 9-6 SU) - The Packers got just what they needed on Sunday. They got QB Aaron Rodgers back in the saddle. The former Cal Golden Bear looked like he had absolutely no chance to throw for 4,000 yards on the season just two weeks ago, but he might get the job done after all. He reached four bills against the New York Giants on Sunday and might have essentially ended any hopes that anyone else had of claiming that last playoff spot in the NFC. Once again, Green Bay is one of the best ATS teams in the game, as this team has made money for us year after year since QB Brett Favre left town.

9: Kansas City Chiefs (9-6 ATS, 10-5 SU) - At the beginning of the season, you could have gotten some absolutely fantastic odds that the Chiefs were going to win the AFC West, but those dreams from the start of the season that felt like a pipe dream turned out to be a reality on Sunday. KC not only knocked off the Tennessee Titans, but it got a gift at the same time in the form of a loss by the San Diego Chargers. The AFC West has been won, and the only question now is whether this team, with ten wins and nine covers in tote, really has a shot to claim the Lombardi Trophy.

10: Buffalo Bills (8-6-1 ATS, 4-11 SU) - We know that the Bills didn't stand a chance on Sunday against the New England Patriots, but give them credit this year for putting WR Steve Johnson in the 1,000 yard club and QB Ryan Fitzpatrick in the 3,000 yard passing club. Head Coach Chan Gailey knows that this team is at least two years away still, but at least knowing that there is some fight in his club is a good thing for the future.
