Week 7 2010 NFL Power Rankings (through 10/25/10)
New York Jets (5-1 ATS, 5-1 SU) - The Jets sat back and watched as the rest of the NFL beat itself up in Week 7. HC Rex Ryan can't like all of the scoring explosions that happened over the weekend, as he much prefers seeing these knockdown, drag out games. Unfortunately for him, New York has looked a lot more like a finesse team right now than one that is ready to knock you in the mouth. That might change this week when the Pack come to town.
Detroit Lions (5-1 ATS, 1-5 SU) - The oddsmakers have certainly been paying attention to the Lions, even during this bye week. Detroit might just be a 1-5 team SU, but thanks to its 5-1 ATS record, it is a favorite at home against the Washington Redskins, a team that is 4-3 and in the thick of the playoff race in the NFC. Is QB Matt Stafford going to make that much of a difference? If he does, the Lions might be able to claw back into the realm of respectability sooner than later.
Kansas City Chiefs (5-1 ATS, 4-2 SU) - Kansas City's defense has to be at least a bit baffled by the fact that a fourth string quarterback was able to drop 20 points on it on Sunday. The Jacksonville Jaguars gave the Chiefs absolutely everything they had before things really fell apart about halfway through the third quarter. From that point on, KC flexed its muscles and really looked like a team that was going to be a force in the postseason picture in the AFC West. With three games in the loss column of cushion on both the Denver Broncos and San Diego Chargers, we tend to believe that this is the year for a new champ out of the West.
Tennessee Titans (5-2 ATS, 5-2 SU) - And now, the Titans stand alone. In a division that has been hotly contested all season long, Tennessee has done a great job to take over sole possession of first place in the AFC South thanks to a big time win over the Philadelphia Eagles. The only bad news is that this team is definitely getting a bad boy image, especially after DB Cortland Finnegan pranced into the end zone after intercepting the final pass of the game for a meaningless score that started a tussle before the teams left the field. For now though, even if QB Vince Young isn't in the lineup, we don't want to get anywhere in the middle of this team.
St. Louis Rams (5-2 ATS, 3-4 SU) - The Rams really deserved better last weekend in Tampa Bay. They raced out to a big lead, but very slowly let it slip away in the second half. There is no doubt that QB Sam Bradford makes this team significantly better, but it has really been the defense that has helped out the most to keep this team in contention in the NFC West. Don't think for one second that anyone wants to see the Rams on their slate, as this is a team that is proving that it can not only cover spreads like it did last week, but win games as well.
Pittsburgh Steelers (4-2 ATS, 5-1 SU) - Pittsburgh betting fans would have loved to see the Steelers punch the ball into the end zone on their final drive of the game last week against the Miami Dolphins, as they would have covered the short three point NFL odds. However, HC Mike Tomlin could really care less as long as his team is still winning, and that's exactly what has happened for the black and gold. The second of three straight road tests comes this week against the defending Super Bowl champs, the New Orleans Saints.
Miami Dolphins (4-2 ATS, 3-3 SU) - The Fins need to find a way to win a game at some point. To their credit, they have been underdogs in all three of their outings this year at Sun Life Stadium, and they really weren't predicted to comfortably win any of the three games. Plus, at least they have a cover to show for their work now... But still, at 0-3 SU at home while playing in the AFC, you're destined to be left home from the playoffs. The Dolphins have plenty of work to do.
Seattle Seahawks (4-2 ATS, 4-2 SU) - Once again, Qwest Field proved to be too much for an opposing team, as the Seahawks dominated the Arizona Cardinals from start to finish to take over first place in the NFC West by themselves. The bad news is that three of the next four are on the road, but if Seattle can clear these hurdles, there might not be a game left in the bunch starting with Thanksgiving weekend in which it might not be the favorite in the game. Don't be shocked to see the 12th Man on display in the playoffs this year.
Washington Redskins (4-2-1 ATS, 4-3 SU) - Perhaps HC Mike Shanahan has this whole thing figured out in our nation's capitol. The Redskins are finding ways to win close games this year, and for as long as they can keep doing that, they're going to be a real force to be reckoned with in the NFC East, especially with the Dallas Cowboys apparently out of the picture once and for all. QB Donovan McNabb still hasn't had a multi touchdown game this season, but at DB DeAngelo Hall made a bit of history over the weekend by picking off four QB Jay Cutler passes to tie an NFL record. With 'D' like that, the 'Skins will keep finding ways to win.
Indianapolis Colts (3-2-1 ATS, 4-2 SU) - No one in Indianapolis will admit to it, but this might be the most important game for the franchise in quite some time on Monday Night Football. The Houston Texans are coming to town, sporting the same record as the Colts, and they are trying to not only win for the first time ever in Indianapolis, but pick up a crucial season sweep. At that point, Indy might be 1.5 games out of the lead in the AFC South with two teams to jump, and with the New England Patriots, New York Jets, Baltimore Ravens, and Pittsburgh Steelers combining for just five total losses on the season, the playoffs might be in question.
