Why the Cowboys will win the Superbowl:

The Cowboys at one point this season looked like they were mailing it in for the season. They had a new stadium but were not winning in it and Tony Romo looked lost without Jessica Simpson. Then a funny thing happened, Dallas seemed to put it altogether.

Tony Romo may not be considered one of the elite quarterbacks in the league but he should be soon. He is starting to make better decisions and it has showed down the stretch this season. In his younger days he was a reckless gunslinger that would throw at any time. Now he realizes the price he pays for those bad mistakes and has played much better.

The offense line is great at run blocking and they have more than one running back that can get yardage. In fact they have three running backs that get yardage for the Cowboys. This is good because it opens up the pass and it allows the Cowboys to own the time of possession in a game and ultimately get the important yards.

Many people don’t realize this but Dallas is third in the NFL in points allowed per game. This defense is led by Ware and they are stout against the run and the pass. They stack up well against team in the playoffs and a great defense mixed with a team that can control the clock is a recipe for winning in the post season.

Why the Cowboys will not win the Superbowl:

Tony Romo and Wade Phillips have a history of blowing it in big game. It could be from a mishandled snap or a bad coaching call. It seems like every time there is a big game on the line you can hold your breath in anticipation of the Cowboys choking one away.

For as good as the Cowboys offense is they struggle in the red zone. They rank 16th in the NFL in scoring in red zone opportunities and this is never a good thing for the playoffs. Getting into an opponents red zone is a good thing but if your just coming away with 3 points or even zero, that will always come back to hurt you in the post season.

The kicking game could be an issue down the stretch. Nick Folk struggled and that led to missing big kicks and costing the cowboys a few wins. The Cowboys had problems all year and eventually ended up cutting the kicker that started the season. The problem is they ended up replacing him with Shaun Suisham and he was replaced by lowly Washington for being equally ineffective.

Jerry Jones calls the shots for the Cowboys and that doesn’t end with player personnel. The reason he has been so happy with keeping Wade Phillips around is because he is a “yes man” and will basically do whatever Jerry says. This meddling could cause the Cowboys in an important game.

Current Odds from Diamond Sportsbook for the Dallas Cowboys in the Playoffs

Odds to win the NFC: 6/1

Odds to win the Superbowl: 12/1

Prediction: The Cowboys will not win the Superbowl or the NFC.

The Cowboys have improved and came on late in the season to impress the teams in the NFL and make the cut to get a wildcard. When I scan the bracket however I don’t see one team that could not win against the Boys.

Although Tony Romo is having a better year and seems to have better targets this year I still have not seen him impress me enough in the big game to make me think he can get the cash in the post season. Until he proves me wrong I can’t bet on him.

The odds look tempting but since they will have to win mostly on the road and they have Jerry Jones calling the shots I think they will be eliminated fairly quickly. Wade Phillips will be out coached by any coach the Boys face and that equals an early exit for the Dallas Cowboys.
