Stay Put may have an impressive track record at three wins and five podium appearance out of seven races, but the biggest issue that he has is the fact that he hasn't run well in either of his graded stakes races that he has run in.

The first setback occurred in the Rising Star, where Stay Put finished fifth. There were several other Belmont Stakes contenders in that field, but the bottom line is that there were also a few other Triple Crown runners in that race as well that haven't performed well at this level.

The other dismal finish came at the Louisiana Derby. Yes, Mission Impazible was the colt that won that race, but starting off in 11th place and never getting higher than fifth isn't anything to write home about.

Following those two disappointing runs, Stay Put was dumped into a stakes race at Churchill Downs last month, which he did win in relatively comfortably fashion at 1 1/16 miles on a sloppy track. Now he's back with the big boys and will try to prove that he belongs.

Unfortunately, that won't come easily. Yes, Da'Tara, who was over 70-1 the year that Big Brown won the first two legs of the Triple Crown, had a very similar resume to Stay Put, but that doesn't mean that he is going to be able to pull off the same feat.

Jockey Jaime Theriot is the only jockey that this horse has known since his first race, but Theriot isn't a well known commodity on the circuit. His job is going to be to put his colt in a position where he can perhaps charge from the rear of the pack to get to the front, but in all likelihood, all that is going to happen is that this will be a horse that makes a move up to the middle of the pack and then just falls flat, runs out of gas, and drifts to the back of the field.
