Homeboykris is a horse that no one seems to want to keep together at any given point. He has had three different trainers in his career, but now has Rick Dutrow Jr. doing the honors. Dutrow is most known for the way that he handled Big Brown two years ago in his quest to become a Triple Crown champion that fell short in the Belmont Stakes. A pair of jockeys have already had their mount aboard Homeboykris, as both Julian Leparoux and Edgar Prado have had rides on him. However, it was Ramon Dominguez who got the call from Dutrow at the Kentucky Derby, all but conceding the fact that this was never a horse with a chance to compete at this level.

Lineage is an issue for this horse as well, as neither sire Roman Ruler nor dam One Last Salute have tremendous histories.

Running Homeboykris in the Kentucky Derby against some of the best three year olds in the sport was an awful idea. Yes, this colt showed tons of promise as a two year old, winning a G1 race at Belmont that made his career. Yes, there were a ton of other current Derby contenders in that race as well. However, since that point, two fifth place finishes at the Remsen and Holy Bull caused Dutrow to take one of his top colts to a general stakes race in February for a final prep. It was a race that Homeboykris was favored to win, but he never had the surge at the end to be able to claim victory at 1 mile. The end result was a race in which Homeboykris never reached higher than 11th place, and if not for a bit of a late kick, he would've finished dead last at Churchill Downs. Don't be surprised if this horse is never heard from again in major races.
