Home / Football Betting / Heisman Trophy OddsThe college football season is almost upon us and that means another race for the Heisman trophy. The Heisman is the most prestigious award that is given for the best player in college football. The Heisman is awarded every year at the Downtown Athletic Club and the previous recipients are some of the best players to ever play the game. Great sportsbooks like Bookmaker.com have already released the odds to win the trophy for 2009. This year there is a long list of potential candidates that have a shot at the award. Â
Tim Tebow (Florida) just because a player has won the award before doesn’t mean he can’t win it again. The best part is that he even gets a vote to decide the winner! Seriously, with the experience Tebow has and the team at Florida filled with talent, he always has a shot to win the award again. Tebow could win his third championship and Coach Urban Meyer changed the offense to show off Tebow’s skills. If he can get it done with a new offensive line then he will be a finalist again this year.Â
Sam Bradford (Oklahoma) Bradford won the Heisman last year but after deciding to stay in school for another year there is a good chance he will have a chance to repeat. If he comes even close to posting the numbers he did last year then his seat is reserved for this year. The offense is perfect for him and it was evident last year when he had 50 touchdown passes and threw for over 4,700 yards. He has to get more help from his front line to pull this off and winning the award back to back his nearly impossible.Â
Colt McCoy (Texas) It is time for McCoy to finally get his due. Unlike the two quarterbacks above him in this rating chain he is bringing back an experienced offensive line.  He passed for nearly 4,000 yards last year and threw for 34 touchdowns but was also a threat to run as he scurried for 11 scores on the ground. This team has a chip on their shoulder from missing out last year and so does the quarterback who decided to come back for one more season. With a championship caliber team and plenty of weapons McCoy should be the favorite to take it home this year.Â
Terrelle Pryor (Ohio St.) The jury is still out on Pryor but he will be given the reigns to arguably the best team in the Big Ten. He has the flash and the marketability that will catch the voter’s eye, but he still has to prove that he can throw the ball. If he can throw the ball and leads Ohio St into the BCS mix he could be in New York this December.Â
Jahvid Best (Cal) Best is the first non quarterback to get a look for Heisman this year. This kid is the real deal He averaged 9 yards per carry last year and will be the feature back again for California. This kid has true NFL skills and unless the East coast bias kicks in he should get plenty of votes this fall.Â
Zac Robinson (Ok St.) I wanted to throw Zac in here because he doesn’t get the credit he deserves playing in the talent rich Big 12. He threw for over 3,000 yards and 25 touchdown passes and could move the ball on the ground just as well. He notched over 500 yards on the ground and hit the end zone eight times. Oklahoma St brings back the full offensive arsenal they had a year ago so Zac will be comfortable with his weapons. Zac is just a few upsets away from getting some serious looks by the Heisman people.Â
There are some other players that may make it to the top of the list as the season goes on. Evan Royster, Jevan Snead, and Jacquizz Rodgers are just a few of the college superstars that may change the voting. Check out the odds for all of these players and more at bookmaker.com. The winner of the race is not always easy to pick but it sure is fun watching!
