The Military Bowl will make the end of an era has it will be the last game for Maryland Head Coach Ralph Friedgen when they take the field against the East Carolina Pirates. The latest college football odds for this bowl game have the Terrapins listed as 7.5 favorites with the total set at 68.

Maryland is big favorites since it is the last game for coach Friedgen and the Terps basically have a home field advantage as this game is being played at RFK Stadium in Washington. Mike Leach has been hired to take over the Maryland coaching job and the future looks bright starting at quarterback where true freshman Danny O’Brien improved throughout the year.

He finished the regular season with 2,257 yards and 21touchdowns and progressed as the year went along finishing the season with his best game of the year. On the ground Davin Meggett led the team with 647 yards and could spark the offense whenever he touched the ball. The Terrapins offense will need to put up big points if they want to play with the Pirates.

The Pirates have a dangerous spread offense that is unstoppable if it’s clicking on all cylinders. Dominique Davis is the playmaker for the Pirates and has shattered school records as his first year as a Pirate. Davis passed for 3,699 yards and 36 touchdowns and is a mobile signal caller that can score by running the rock as evident by his nine trips to the end zone while carrying the rock.

The biggest problem for the Pirates has been their porous defense which is prone to allowing big games by the opposition. The Pirates lost four games this year although they put at least 27 points on the board. ECU enters this game under a cloud of controversy. Two East Carolina football players were arrested over the weekend following an incident in downtown Greenville, N.C. Running backs Giavanni Ruffin and Brandon Jackson were charged with public intoxication, resisting a public officer and obstructing.

The Pirates are in no shape to win this game against a motivated Maryland team looking to win one for the coach.
