2011 American League MVP

The MVP is the most prestigious award in all of baseball besides a World Series ring. This winner of this award is basically known as the best player in the game. This award is given out in both the National League and the American League. For the sports bettor picking the MVP could be a valuable future wager that can played along with the multiple other MLB future wagers available. Here is a look at some of the favorites to win the award in the American League and the current odds.

Evan Longoria Tampa Bay Rays
Current Odds: +150

It is only a matter of time before Longoria can claim an American League MVP award. He is the Rays best player, full of talent, and could hit 40+ home runs. The Rays can compete in the AL East and if they leap frog the Yankees or the Red Sox than his name will be on the ballot for MVP.

Joe Mauer Minnesota Twins
Current Odds: +180

Mauer won it last year and will be in the running again this year. He plays one of the hardest positions in baseball and hit for both power and average. The Twins locked him up to a long term deal before the season and that will take that off his mind and allow him to focus on baseball. If he can stay healthy behind the plate he has as good of shot as anyone.

Alex Rodriguez New York Yankees
Current Odds: +350

If you’re going to take a chance on A-Rod there is no better team than right now. He plays on the best team in baseball and is over his injury. The Steroid scandal is behind him and he has protection in the lineup. This should allow him to focus on baseball and put up some big numbers with the only downside being the other multiple MVP candidates in the lineup.

These are the top three candidates but not the only ones that have a shot at the MVP. Mark Teixeira of the New York Yankees is listed at +250 to win the title and has a great combination of power and average. Going against Rodriguez and Derek Jeter could be the only thing that stops him from winning the award. Miguel Cabrera +200 deserves a look for the Detroit Tigers but he may have too many question marks with off the field problems and the success of his team. Finally Kendry Morales at +800 is a long shot but he is the best player on the Angels and should put up some solid numbers.

Every year the sports bettor handicaps for the season and tries to predict the winners of the World Series and each division. The same should be done for player propositions such as the MVP award. Take a good luck and play a few bucks on a player and you could reap the benefits at the season’s end.
