2010 AL Champion Preseason Prediction

The 2010 Major league Baseball starts soon and its time to take a look at the teams that will compete for the championship this year. In order to do this we will look at each league and see what teams will compete for the Championship. In this article we will breakdown the American league and look at some of the teams that have a chance to walk away with the A.L. crown.

New York Yankees: there cannot be any discussion about the American league Championship with mentioning the defending champions and arguably the best team in baseball. The Yankees shipped Melky Cabrera to the Braves and brought in Javier Vasquez and will be strong again in the starting rotation. In the outfield they replaced the aging Johnny Damon with the younger and quicker Curtis Granderson. This will provide this team with speed to get on the bases so Alex Rodriquez and Mark Teixeira can clean them up. The Yankees are +150 to win the American League and will be the team to beat this year.

Boston Red Sox: The Red Sox are the hated rivals of the New York Yankees so it is no surprise they are the best option to knock out the defending champions this year. The Boston red Sox made a big splash in the free agent market and signed John Lackey away from the Angels. The Red Sox now boast a tough pitching rotation that star John Lester, Josh Beckett, and John Lackey to start it off. The Red Sox were not done there and improved their defense by signing outfielder Mike Cameron and third baseman Adrian Beltre. There are still some questions on if this team has enough offense and if they can stay healthy all year but at +300 the Red Sox have some value if you think they are going to win the crown in the American league.

Tampa Bay Rays: The Rays are a solid young team but unfortunately they play in the East so it may be hard to make a run at the crown but they have done it before. Thebetter young players like Evan Longoria, David Price, Jeff Niemann, and Ben Zobrist have more experience and will be able to play under pressure. They have a solid young pitching rotation led by James Shields and Matt Garza and plenty of youth. This may be just enough to give them a shot at the title. At +600 if they pull it off the payout will be nice.

Chicago White Sox: The Chicago White Sox may have lost some big bats in Jim Thome and Jermaine Dye but this team is still going to compete. They grabbed Jake Peavy last year from the Padres and now have a solid ace to anchor the staff. Mark Buerhle will get better matchups in the two hole and with a solid bullpen this team will play a role in who wins the American League. At a staggering +110 to win the American League the White Sox may fill your bank account with dollars if they can pull it off.

As much as we like dark horses and taking a shot on a team to win the American League the answer is simple. The New York Yankees at +150 is our mlb pick to win the American League.
