2010 NL Champion Preseason Prediction
The 2010 Major league Baseball starts soon and its time to take a look at the teams that will compete for the championship this year. In order to do this we will look at each league and see what teams will compete for the Championship. In this article we will breakdown the National League and look at some of the teams that have a chance to walk away with the N.L. crown.
Philadelphia Phillies: the defending champions have the best chance in the National league of getting back to the World Series and being the National League Champions. They traded Cliff Lee in the off season but actually improved their staff when they signed Roy Halladay possibly the best pitcher in all of baseball. With one of the most power lineups in the National League he will get plenty of run support. Chase Utley should have a MVP year and Ryan Howard will hammer the ball all year long. The odds are not that bad at +240 for this team to win the National League.
St. Louis Cardinals: The Cardinals are always in the front running for the title in the National League and this year will be no different. They were very busy in the off-season and paid Matt Holliday to make sure he will stay a red bird. His presence in the lineup will keep Albert Pujols deadly at the plate and producing runs. Adam Wainwright and Chris Carpenter will be a deadly one two punch at the front of the rotation and the Cardinals have a legitimate shot at the title. The Cardinals check in at +400 to win the National League.
Colorado Rockies: The Rockies have become the sexy pick to win the National league but for good reason. Ubaldo Jimenez is a ace and will be the biggest win getter in the NL and have a shot at the CY young award. He will get some help in the rotation from Aaron Cook, and Jeff Francis. The batting order does not scream of murders row but they have great chemistry and always have a great second half of the season. They are at +750 to win the National league and that price looks nice to plenty of the experts.
Cincinnati Reds: Don’t laugh this team has the potential to do some good things. This is one of the deepest teams in the league when it comes to pitching. If healthy they could sport a six man rotation. They have young fire ballers in Johnny Cueto and Aroldis Chapman but some other players like Leake and Wood may surprise as late bloomers. The lineup is bolstered by Jay Bruce and Joey Votto and they are disciplined at the plate. Scott Rolen brings veteran leadership and with Dusty Baker at the helm this team can surprise. The odds are a stunning +2200 and that will be a nice payday if you want to take a shot on the Reds.
The Phillies are the favorites but we will side with the St. Louis Cardinals in this race at +400. The odds are nice and this team is talented enough to be named National league Champions at the end of the year.
