The Boston Celtics have won back to back games on the NBA betting lines to extend their series against the New York Knicks. Can they force the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals to a pivotal Game 7? They’ll have to win at the TD Garden on Friday night to be able to do so.

The Knicks have lost their way over the course of the last two games, and it all starts on the defensive end of the court. They are allowing the Celtics to shoot the ball far too efficiently from the outside, and it is really coming back to bite the team in the backside. The deeper this series goes, the more that we are seeing F Carmelo Anthony shoot the ball way, way too much. We had a fear at the outset of this series that both Melo and G JR Smith were going to try to take matters into their own hands and shoot the ball from the outside instead of driving to the hoop, and that’s what happened in Game 5. These two men shot just 11-of-38 between them. The rest of the team went 21-of-43 and played with incredibly efficiency. New York also shot just 5-of-22 from the outside, and that isn’t going to get the job done when push comes to shove against the Celtics.

Boston has never given up in this series, and it shows. The Celtics were behind 3-0, and they had every excuse in the book to fall apart at the end of Game 4 as well. They had just blown a huge lead and were forced into overtime by the Knicks, but instead of falling down, they battled back, put together a huge overtime period, and have looked the part of the better team ever since. Head Coach Doc Rivers got at least 16 points from five of the seven men that he used on Wednesday night in Game 5, and it was a huge effort from all five guys to get the job done. Boston shot 50.0% from beyond the arc in the game, including getting five huge threes from G Jason Terry off of the bench. F Kevin Garnett scored 16 and pulled down 18 boards to dominate on the inside for the first time in this series, and based upon some of the scowls and positive, upbeat feelings that we saw on the Boston sideline, this is a team that truly believes that it can win this series.

However, we think that Boston’s time is done. There is going to be a point that Melo gets back on his horse, scores around 40 in a game, and puts the Celtics away. This seems to be the time for that to happen. There is only so much heart and effort that a team has at its disposal, and it feels to us like the tank has to be just about empty for Boston. If G Raymond Felton continues to play as well as he has these last two outings and Smith and Anthony don’t literally lose their minds, the Knicks will finally end this series on Friday to avoid a do or die Game 7. New York 96 – Boston 88
