Germany knows that a victory is going to be the only certain way to get into the second round of the World Cup. However, without M Michael Ballack, who has missed this entire tournament, and F Miroslav Klose, who is suspended, the task is going to be a lot tougher. A loss to Serbia in the last match was surprising, but after losing Klose in the 37th minute and conceding a goal just a minute later, it is amazing that the Germans had chance after chance to still get back on terms. Even though it only had ten men on the pitch, the team looked just about as good as it did when it thrashed Australia 4-0, but the difference was not having Klose on the pitch. The offense looked solid in the midfield, but the lack of strikers showed in a big way. There is still a question about who is going to replace him in the lineup on Wednesday.

Ghana missed out on a golden opportunity to put itself in the second round of the World Cup. The Black Stars did fall behind 1-0 to the Aussies, but that goal was erased less than 15 minutes later on a spot kick by F Asamoah Gyan. On that play, Australia lost M Harry Kewell to a red card for a handball in the box. The Ghanaians just couldn’t capitalize though, which really does set up a bad spot in this match. There are a number of injuries in the back for the African side, and for a team that has yet to score a goal that wasn’t from a penalty kick, that is just all the more bad news.

There just isn’t a way that we can avoid backing Germany in this match. Yes, Ghana is going to have a tad of a home field advantage, but that just isn’t going to be enough to take care of the superior talent on the pitch for the central European squad. Expect to see F Lukas Podolski run wild in the back, as the Germans take it to Ghana and force it to watch the scoreboard to see if it can sneak into the second round of this tournament with the right result in the Serbia/Australia match going on concurrently.
