Women’s Wimbledon Predictions: Tsvetana Pironkova vs. Petra Kvitova Pick

Things are getting tight in Wimbledon betting action, as there are just eight women left standing, one of which is going to be a Grand Slam event winner. Both Petra Kvitova and Tsvetana Pironkova are going to hope to win their first major tournament, and the two are on a crash course with one another in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.

Whatever Pironkova does to get herself ready for Wimbledon, she needs to do it every single year. She had never made it out of the second round of any Grand Slam event before last year when she made it all the way to the semifinals here at the All England Club. She hadn’t made it past the second round since that point either until reaching the quarterfinals here with a great run this week. Last year, Pironkova was able to dismiss Venus Williams from Wimbledon betting festivities, and this year, she was able to pull it off once again with a tremendous 6-2, 6-3 romp on Monday. This was the second straight absolutely thrilling match for the Bulgarian. She dismissed No. 2 Vera Zvonareva in the third round in straight sets by an identical 6-2, 6-3 score. In fact, Pironkova hasn’t had a single set in this tournament in which she has lost more than four games, and she has lost two or fewer games in five of her eight sets played. Of course, the bad news for Pironkova is that she is just 73-101 in her career, and she has never won a title of any sort in her career.

The good news for Kvitova is that she does have four titles in her career, and she has a great record year to date at 32-6. The Czech native is ranked No. 8 in the world, the high point in her career, and she, much like Pironkova, has had a great run in the second straight year at England. In fact, she really has looked good since that unpredictable semifinals run last year, finishing in the third round at the US Open, the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, and the fourth round at the French Open. The even better news for Kvitova is that she is in great form in this tournament. She hasn’t dropped a set either, and she has only had two sets in which she lost even three games, both of which came against No. 29 Roberta Vinci in the third round. Her best match was her most recent one on Monday against No. 19 Yanina Wickmayer. Kvitova scored a 6-0, 6-2 win, and she was absolutely dominating in a match that could have provided her with a ton of troubles.

This is a tough match to handicap, but when pus really comes to shove, we just don’t think that Pironkova is going to end up getting the job done. Sure, both of these ladies are in fine form at this point, but Kvitova really looks like a player that is due to win her first Grand Slam event. Pironkova still feels like a novelty to us. We’ll make our free Wimbledon picks on Kvitova -300.
