Wisconsin Badgers (5-0) at No. 9 Ohio State Buckeyes (4-1)
Saturday October 10th, 3:30PM Eastern
Betus.com betting line – Ohio State -16, 49
The Wisconsin Badgers are off to an impressive 5-0 start but their undefeated start is on a collision course with destiny this Saturday afternoon when they take on the Ohio State Buckeyes inside the Horseshoe. The Badgers have capture some conference wins over Minnesota and Michigan State, but face their biggest conference battle to date. Both teams own a 2-0 mark in the Big Ten and are among only 3 unbeaten teams left standing in the conference. However, that will all change this weekend as the No. 9 ranked Buckeyes look to defend the home turf and stay on top of the standings in the Big Ten.
The Buckeyes enter the contest riding an impressive 8-1 mark against the books in their last 9 contest and have beaten the Badgers for the last two straight seasons. Ohio State sports a premier running game along with one of the best defenses in America. The Buckeyes defense has allowed just 252 yards per game and just 11.8 points per game which both rank in the top 10 nationally. However, that same tough defense will meet one of the best offenses in the Big Ten and it will be interesting to see if they can continue to produce those dominating numbers.
The Badgers offense is averaging 35 points per game to lead the Big Ten. The big reason for the success has been produced from the legs of running back John Clay. Clay has racked up 582 yards on the season and 7 touchdowns as one of the most productive backs in the conference. As a result, the Badgers have averaged a stout 217 yards per game as a team on the ground. Of course Ohio State has one of the best run stop defenses in America, but that will not stop the Badgers from attacking on the ground. Junior QB Scott Tolzien has been effective when needed as well. Tolzien has thrown for 1043 yards with 9 touchdowns while completing a fairly good 65.5% of his passes. Also, Tolzien has thrown just 1 pick since the Badgers opener and if he can continue to keep the passing game mixed in with the run success then Wisconsin should have a chance this Saturday.
On the other side of the ball, the Badgers will be trying to stop the Buckeyes ground game first and foremost as well. The defensive front for the Badgers may match-up well with the Buckeyes keeping this game surprisingly close. Wisconsin ranks 2nd in the conference with 14 sacks already this season and has allowed 128 yards on the ground. The Badgers defense kept this game close a year ago holding the Buckeyes to just 327 total yards in a close 20-17 loss. However, if they can get a little more help from their offense they will have another shot to score an upset and keep their unblemished record.
The Badgers will be trying to slow down the likes of QB Terrelle Pryor. Pryor is a big time dual threat that can beat you a number of ways. Possibly the most dangerous asset that Pryor has is on any given pass he can tuck the ball away and pick up a large chunk of yardage. The Buckeyes quarterback leads the team in rushing with 298 yards and 5.4 yards per carry. Running back Daniel Herron and Brandon Saine add to the rushing threat. Herron gets the most touches and has 5 touchdowns on the year, but Saine has proven to be the bigger play threat thus far this year. Junior wide out Dane Sanzenbacher has proved to be a big force at the receiver position averaging over 20 yards per catch to go along with 4 scores. While Pryor continues to be dangerous every outing with his legs, the Buckeyes are at their best when plays are made with his arm.
Pick – This could turn out to be another low scoring game like the 2008 meeting and the Badgers have the explosiveness to score points which should keep things rather close. Take Wisconsin +16
