All About Quarterback Play

If you go and look at the betting odds to win the Heisman Trophy, you are going to see that the top of the list is loaded with quarterbacks. This award is technically open to any player in the league, but it’s usually a quarterback that takes home the title.

Just like with the NFL, it’s all about quarterback play, as that position tends to be the most important. The preseason betting odds to win the Heisman Trophy have a big betting favorite, but then the odds tend to tighten up.

Here is a look at some of the players and odds you are going to see:

  • Caleb Williams +500
  • Jayden Daniels +900
  • Quinn Ewers +1000
  • Cade Klubnik +1000
  • Jordan Travis +1400
  • J.J. McCarthy +1400
  • Michael Penix Jr. 1800
  • Sam Hartman +2000
  • Marvin Harrison Jr. +2000

You have to get all the way down to Marvin Harrison Jr. at +2000 before you see a non-quarterback on the list, and we haven’t even gotten to a running back yet. Harrison is one of the best wide receivers you will see at the collegiate level, but he is not expected to really play a big factor in Heisman Trophy voting.

Team Success Matters

Even though the Heisman Trophy is an individual award, every voter would tell you that they are keeping track of team success in order to figure out who to vote for. Star quarterbacks of bad teams will largely be ignored, and those leading a high-profile program will have a better chance.

Sam Hartman is a name to watch at +2000 as he is set to be the starting quarterback at Notre Dame University. If Hartman can get the Fighting Irish into the College Football Playoffs, then he is going to be in the mix.

Georgia and Alabama are both expected to be back in the CFP this year, but they are not expected to have a dominant quarterback leading the way. That leaves the door open for players of another program, and that is why the betting will be so interesting this year.

Williams Gets it Done

The Heisman Trophy is supposed to go to the best player in college football each year, and that player would be Caleb Williams. The USC quarterback is expected to be the number one pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and he is clearly the most talented player in the country.

Williams should have USC in a position to make the CFP this season, which is something that hasn’t happened in way too long. The Trojans will throw the ball a ton, with Lincoln Riley calling the shots, and Williams will put up some ridiculous stats.

Even though you don’t usually want to back the favorite when making a futures bet, going with Caleb Williams to win the Heisman at +500 is the play here.
