NCAA Basketball Pick – March 10th
Arch Madness comes to a close in the most predictable fashion possible, as the Missouri Valley Conference crown will be earned by either the Wichita State Shockers or the Creighton Blue Jays in St. Louis. This clash on the NCAA basketball betting lines will take place on Sunday afternoon.
The argument could be made that the Shockers were in a bit of trouble to get into the NCAA Tournament coming into the day on Saturday, but their win over the Illinois State Redbirds really should have removed any doubt whatsoever. Wichita State has had a great season, and it should expect to fall on perhaps the 7/8 line with a win or the 9/10 line with a loss. Aside from F Cleanthony Early and F Carl Hall, there really aren’t many men on this team that can fill up the scoreboard. Where the Shockers really get the job done is on the defensive end of the court. They are holding teams down to just 60.5 points per game, and foes are shooting just 39.9 percent from the floor against them. Thus far in the Missouri Valley Tournament, the Missouri State Bears and the Redbirds really haven’t had all that much in the way of offensive production. The two teams only scored a total of 110 points in two games against the Shockers, and Creighton probably shouldn’t have all that much success either.
The Blue Jays were considered to be back on the bubble as of the middle of February, but since losing in BracketBusters to the St. Mary’s Gaels, they have rolled off four straight wins and covers, including beating these Shockers to take the regular season MVC title. F Doug McDermott is up for National Player of the Year honors, and he has had four straight flat out awesome games in a row. He has averaged 30.3 points and 8.3 boards per game in his last four outings, and he is now up to averaging 23.5 points per game on the campaign. McDermott put up 41 against the Shockers just last week, and he is one of the few men in this country that can literally take over, not just an entire game, but potentially the entire NCAA Tournament as well. The Blue Jays rank No. 2 in the land in shooting at 51.0 percent from the floor and second in three-point shooting as well at 42.0 percent. The end result is 75.6 points per game, ranking 23rd in the land.
The Missouri Valley was an underrated conference this year. These two teams are both going to end up dancing when push comes to shove, so this one doesn’t mean all that much to either team from the standpoint of going to the NCAA Tournament. We think that this game is going to be very different from the one that was played last week in Omaha, and once the pace slows down, the Shockers will be the right side to back.
