Washington Wizards at Indiana Pacers Game Five Pick
- Updated: May 13, 2014
When the series between the Washington Wizards and the Indiana Pacers began it looked as though the Pacers were going to have some big problems, but now they are just one game away from advancing to the next round of the NBA playoffs. The last game may have been the worst loss for the Wizards and could have essentially ended the series.
The Wizards had a double digit lead that they could not hold as they lost in ugly fashion and are now scrambling to try and survive. Washington held a 19-point lead early in the third quarter of Game 4 and was up nine midway through the fourth before letting the game slip away. John Wall’s 3-pointer with 4:39 left was the Wizards’ final field goal of the game, and Wall and Bradley Beal each missed a free throw down the stretch before Trevor Ariza threw away the ball on an inbounds pass in the final seconds. This loss was monumental and it is yet to be seen if they can recover.
The odds makers made the Pacers (-5.5) point favorites in this pivotal game which seems like it is a bit high. The Pacers have seen a return from their star players. Paul George scored his playoff career-high 39 points, 26 of which came against Trevor Ariza. He scored more points against Ariza today than he did in the first three games combined. Now they have to get one more inspired effort.
The latest basketball betting trends would suggest that the Wizards still have a shot to get back into this series. The Wizards are 5-0 against the spread (ATS) in their last 5 road games when they go up against a team with a home winning percentage of greater than .600, 26-10 ATS in their last 36 road games and 10-3 ATS in the last 13 games overall. The Pacers are 4-13 ATS in their last 17 home games, 4-15 ATS in their last 19 games when they take the court against a team with a winning straight up record and the Wizards are 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings in Indiana.
The Wizards scored 18 fast-break points in the first half and zero in the second in the last outing so if they want to win this game they will have to push the tempo. While it would be easy for the Wizards to fade away in this series, they have played well on the road all season. The Wizards are not done yet, they will not only cover in this game but they will win outright and extend this series.
