Washington Redskins vs. New York Giants NFL Free Pick for Week 13

Washington Redskins
(5-6, 5-5-1 ATS)

New York Giants
(7-4, 5-6 ATS)

NFC East rivals duke it out on Sunday afternoon in the Meadowlands, as the New York Giants face off with the Washington Redskins in a do or die game for the men from our nation’s capitol.

This is absolutely a must game for the Redskins, as they will be three games back of both the Philadelphia Eagles and the G-Men with a loss. QB Donovan McNabb really badly needs to put together a big game together. He has thrown for 2,853 yards this year, but he really hasn’t had that one game that just makes you go “Wow!” The defense has been absolutely atrocious, as this is the only unit in the league that is averaging over 400 yards per game this year allowed. The secondary has been terrible, allowing 269.4 yards per game, and any unit that has had the ability to get the ball up the field has really torched this team. The running game has really never gotten anything going this year either. RB Ryan Torain is the team’s leading rusher at 391 yards, and though there are four rushers on this team that have over 140 yards on the ground, there aren’t any options that can really help this team out consistently. On the other side of the ball, watch out for DB DeAngelo Hall and DE Brian Orakpo. Orakpo is one of the best sack men in the league at 8.5 for the year, while Hall has six picks and two TDs to show for his work.

Injuries have really destroyed the Giants this year, but they are still in a position to get back in first place in the NFC East with a ‘W’. Still, this game is going to have to be won without WR Steve Smith and WR Hakeem Nicks, meaning QB Eli Manning doesn’t have a lot of his top targets. Manning has thrown for 2,821 yards and 23 TDs this year, but as always, we talk about his bugaboo, his 16 INTs. With Nicks and Smith out, WR Mario Manningham is the team’s top target. Manningham has caught 41 passes for 561 yards and five TDs this year, but he isn’t nearly as strong of a receiver as the men that are out of the fold. RB Ahmad Bradshaw is settling back into the fold as a backup running back again, but he is still going to end up at the 1,000 yard barrier by the time this season is over with. RB Brandon Jacobs had a nice game on the ground last week, and he is up to 474 yards and five TDs this year. Defensively, we know that this team is phenomenal, averaging allowing 286.5 yards and 21.8 points per game. No secondary has done a better job against the pass this year than New York, at 186.1 yards per game.

New York might have a defense that is that good, but it just doesn’t have enough horses on offense to be able to score enough to cover this number. The Redskins might be able to win this game outright, but even if they can’t, we love their chances of keeping this score within a TD.
