The NCAAF season continues with Week 5 on Friday, September 30, and this Pac-12 duel in Pasadena is getting a lot of attention, so make sure you don’t miss out on the best Huskies vs. Bruins betting pick and odds.

Both Washington and UCLA are looking to stay unbeaten when they meet at Rose Bowl. The Huskies are -3.5 favorites on BetOnline Sportsbook, while the total is set at 65.5 points. These conference foes have faced once in 2021, and the Bruins won that game 24-17 at Husky Stadium.

Huskies opened the conference play with a win over Stanford

The Washington Huskies started the new NCAAF campaign with four wins, including the most recent one over the conference rivals Stanford Cardinal at home. The Huskies had a comfortable 30-7 lead after three quarters, so they could afford to relax a bit in the final 15 minutes but still won with ease 40-22.

The hosts forced three turnovers and committed none on the other end. Michael Penix Jr. completed 22 of 37 passes for 309 yards and two touchdowns. Rome Odunze was impressive with 161 yards on eight receptions, and he also caught one of Penix’s two TD passes. On the ground, Wayne Taulapapa was dominant with 120 yards and a score on 13 carries. Defensively, the Huskies destroyed the Cardinal with eight sacks opposite Stanford’s zero. Alphonzo Tuputala and Bralen Trice led the bunch with a pair of sacks apiece.

LB Edefuan Ulofoshio is recovering from a previous arm injury and has also injured his knee. He is likely to return during the midpoint of the season.

Bruins won their first road game of the campaign

The UCLA Bruins improved to a 4-0 record after a 45-17 road victory over the Colorado Buffaloes. For the third time in four games, UCLA scored precisely 45 points, and this time around, totaled over 500 yards, 200+ more than the hosts. Interestingly, Colorado had eight minutes more of possession, but also committed two turnovers opposite UCLA’s zero.

Dorian Thompson-Robinson completed 19 of 23 passes for 234 yards and two touchdowns, while he also added 56 rushing yards on seven attempts. Zach Charbonnet was a monster on the ground with 104 yards and three touchdowns on nine carries. Colson Yankoff had just two receptions for five yards, but both were for touchdowns. Laiatu Latu tormented the opposing offensive line with three sacks, while the entire team registered five.

DL Martin Andrus Jr. has missed the last two contests with a leg injury, and it is undetermined if he will suit up Friday versus Washington.

Trends:

Washington:

  • 1-5 ATS in the last six road games
  • 2-5 ATS in the last seven games vs. a team with a winning record
  • 3-9 ATS in the last 12 conference games

UCLA:

  • 5-2 ATS in the last seven games overall
  • 7-2-1 ATS in the last ten games after scoring more than 40 points in their previous game
  • 4-0 ATS in the last four conference games

Washington Huskies vs. UCLA Bruins Pick

Washington did cover each of its four games this season, but they will face the toughest task on Friday, and the Bruins will be highly motivated to defend their turf. The Bruins have the ability to stop the best pass offense in the country as their defense is a top 20 and respond with a top 20 run offense that averages 220.5 yards per game. It’s going to be a super tense and interesting conference clash that could go either way, but I am backing the Bruins to cover. Michael Penix Jr. vs. Dorian Thompson-Robinson, Wayne Taulapapa vs. Zach Charbonnet, Jalen McMillan vs. Jake Bobo on offense, and Bralen Trice vs. Laiatu Latu on defense. It’s going to be a spectacle.

Pick: Take the Bruins at +3.5 (-110)

The Total

Even though we’re dealing with two top 30 offenses that average over 40 points per game, I expect to see some strong defensive plays in this one. In other words, better defense and offense that commits fewer turnovers will get a win here. UCLA allows 18.0 ppg, while Washington allows 19.0 ppg. Under is 19-6-1 in the Huskies’ last 26 road games, while Under is 17-7 in the Bruins’ previous 24 games after scoring more than 40 points in their last game.

Pick: Go Under 66.5 points (-130)
