Week 11 in the NCAAF is providing plenty of exciting matchups on Saturday, November 12, and this conference clash in North Carolina is one of them, so make sure you read the best Hokies vs. Blue Devils betting pick and odds.

Virginia Tech is desperate to avoid the seventh straight loss, while Duke is looking for the third win in a row when they meet at Wallace Wade Stadium. The Blue Devils are -9.5 favorites on BetDSI Sportsbook, while the total is set at 49.5 points. These ACC rivals have met once in 2021, and the Hokies won 48-17 at home.

Hokies suffered another heartbreaking loss

The Virginia Tech Hokies (2-7-0, 3-6-0 ATS) suffered the sixth consecutive defeat and the second in a row by a 1-point margin. After losing to the NC State Wolfpack 22-21 on the road, the Hokies fell short of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at home. Despite having a 20-10 and 27-16 lead, Virginia Tech allowed a pair of touchdowns in the final quarter and lost 28-27. The visitors were better in total yards (463-304) and forced four turnovers while committing one on the other end.

Grant Wells completed 14 of 25 passes for 164 yards and one interception. He did contribute with one rushing touchdown, while Keshawn King also added a rushing TD as he led the team with 79 yards on 13 carries. Kaleb Smith led the Hokies in receiving yards with 78 on four catches. Keli Lawson had a pick-six in the third quarter, while Dax Hollifield and Alan Tisdale registered eight tackles apiece.

TE Benji Gosnell is out for the season with a knee injury, while RB Malachi Thomas (ankle) is doubtful to play on Saturday against Duke.

Blue Devils got a road win against Boston College

The Duke Blue Devils (6-3-0, 5-4-0 ATS) recorded the second straight road win. Following a W against the Miami Hurricanes, Duke got another one over the Boston College Eagles. The Blue Devils were excellent on offense and took their chances to build a massive 31-14 lead in the third quarter. The hosts tried to return in the final 15 minutes, but Duke got away with a 38-31 victory.

Riley Leonard completed 16 of 24 passes for 158 yards and a touchdown. He also led all the players in rushing yards with 96 yards and a score on 13 attempts; Jaquez Moore had two rushing touchdowns, while Jordan Waters found the end zone on the ground as well. Jalon Calhoun and Sahmir Hagans combined for 93 receiving yards, and the latter scored a TD. On defense, Darius Joiner and DeWayne Carter chipped in two sacks each, while Shaka Heyward had game-high 11 tackles and added a sack.

Trends:

Virginia Tech:

  • 2-5 ATS in the last seven games overall
  • 4-12 ATS in the last 16 road games

Duke:

  • 5-2 ATS in the last seven games on grass

Virginia Tech Hokies vs. Duke Blue Devils Pick

Virginia Tech is closer and closer to snapping a negative streak, but I don’t think it will happen against Duke. The Blue Devils are playing well on offense lately and are scoring 140 points per game more than the Hokies on average this season. They are particularly dangerous on the ground as they average 208.1 yards per contest and are just outside the top 20 in that segment. The Blue Devils also have a better defense, and I have no doubt they will get their third consecutive victory on Saturday.

Pick: Take the Blue Devils at -9.5 (-110)

The Total

Duke did allow 52 points in the last two games, but their home defense has been solid this year as they kept the opponents to 20 or fewer points in three of four games. Virginia Tech is not a good offensive team, and I doubt the visitors will score more than 17 points in this one. Under is 4-1 in the last five H2H meetings in Duke; Under is 8-3 in the Hokies’ previous 11 vs. a team with a winning record, while Under is 5-1 in Virginia Tech’s last six games following an ATS loss.

Pick: Go Under 50.5 points (-120)
