The Pac-12 South race expects to be wide open this year, and it might not get any more important than this NCAA football betting battle between the USC Trojans and the Arizona State Sun Devils down in the desert.

The Trojans are 3-1, and it almost seems like there is no way that they should be 3-1 by the eye test. This is a team that can’t throw the football, it doesn’t run the ball all that well either, and though the defense is good, the offense can’t score a lick to save its life. QB Cody Kessler has taken over as the team’s official starting quarterback at this point, and maybe that will help. He’s up to completing 60.5 percent of his passes for 537 yards and four scores against two picks, but he would really be helped out if this was the game that RB Silas Redd would come back to the team. Redd has been battling an MCL injury all year and has yet to get on the field. RB Tre Madden is doing the job in his place, and he does have 455 yards in four games to go with a pair of trips to the end zone. He would make a great combo with Redd in the backfield, and perhaps that would open up some things to get the ball in the hands of WR Marqise Lee more often.

Arizona State is a team that we think has really been overrated over the course of the last few years. RB Marion Grice puts up great numbers, and QB Taylor Kelly has been setup for success in the long run, but that doesn’t mean that this team is all that great, and we aren’t sure that it was really ever worthy of being called a Top 25 team. The club is coming off of a 14-point loss to the Stanford Cardinal in a game that was never really all that close, and the truth of the matter is that it should have lost to what we still estimate to be a shaky Wisconsin Badgers outfit as well. So what’s left for this team to really fall back on? WR Jaelen Strong has had a great season, catching 24 passes for 330 yards in three games, but we’re talking about a great USC secondary that is very talented. The problem for the Trojans hasn’t been on the defensive side of the ball, and the question is there as to whether this offense for ASU is going to get enough going for this one or not.

The Trojans have failed to cover eight straight games on the road, but this just feels like the sort of game that they are going to win and win SU. It’s tough to justify, but we are firm believers that the Men of Troy are just the better of the two teams in this game, and it’ll show on Saturday night.

USC Trojans vs. Arizona State Sun Devils Pick: USC Trojans +6
