us open tennis oddsThe U.S. Open begins on Monday in New York with Roger Federer favored on the men’s side, while Garbine Muguruza is the women’s favorite. Neither of those two players is a No. 1 seed however, as Rafael Nadal and Karolina Pliskova are the top seeds. Federer will be looking to win his sixth U.S. Open title, while Muguruza is trying to win her first U.S. Open. Let’s look at this event and U.S. Open picks.

The U.S. Open begins on Monday, August 28, 2017 and concludes on Sunday, September 10, 2017. The action takes place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, New York with Roger Federer and Garbine Muguruza the favorites.

The men’s side of the draw will be missing Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Stan Wawrinka who are all injured. It should be all about Federer, as he has the easiest path to the title. Nadal has not played that well on hard courts this year and he may have trouble just reaching the semifinals where he would be matched up against Federer. If there is a player who can beat Federer it might be Alexander Zverev who is the No. 4 seed. He has already beaten Federer and Djokovic to win titles this year.

Women’s U.S. Open Odds

Garbine Muguruza +405

Karolina Pliskova +606

Simona Halep +1102

Elina Svitolina +1125

Johanna Konta +1202

Madison Keys +1562

Angelique Kerber +1659

Caroline Wozniaki +2055

Maria Sharapova +2055

Venus Williams +2055

Coco Vandeweghe +2055

Svetlana Kuznetsova +2558

Jelena Ostapenko +3067

Petra Kvitova +3571

Agnieszka Radwanska +4050

Sloane Stephens +4550

Dominica Cibulkova +6050

You can make a case for as many as ten women winning at the U.S. Open and it wouldn’t be a stretch if you went 15 deep. Muguruza is the favorite but she has never had much success in New York. Her chances are definitely helped this year, as Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka are out. Simona Halep is the No. 2 seed but she has a tough draw that includes facing Maria Sharapova in the first round. Karolina Pliskova is the No. 1 seed and she did finish as the runner-up last year to Angelique Kerber.  You can’t even rule out Venus Williams who is having a good season and don’t forget about Caroline Wozniacki who has reached a final six times already this year.

U.S. Open Picks

On the men’s side, anything other than Federer winning would be a big surprise but Zverev does have some value at odds of over 5-1. On the women’s side it is a total crapshoot, as there are a lot of players who could win. Muguruza is the choice but there is not much value in her at odds of 4-1. A live longshot could be Kuznetsova at odds of 25-1.
