NBA Betting: Trail Blazers vs Pacers
- Updated: February 7, 2014
The Portland Trail Blazers may be going through a little bit of a slowdown after a very hot start in the NBA’s Western Conference. They are also experiencing some of those “road woes.” They have not been able to hit too many shots lately, and it’s questionable whether they will start to find the mark on Friday as they make a visit to the Indiana Pacers in basketball betting action that is set to begin at 7:05 PM ET at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
Portland is in third place in the West, with a straight up record of 35-14, and a pointspread ledger of 26-23. Indiana leads the East with a 38-10 record, and the Pacers are 31-17 against the NBA odds.
Indiana Pacers -6
Portland Trail Blazers +6
Over 196 points -110
Under 196 points -110
Indiana is looking for some revenge here. Back on December 2, they went into Portland and came out on the short end of a 106-102 score. In that game, Paul George set a career-high with 43 points and Indiana made nine triples. But they gave Portland too many opportunities at the free-throw line, as the Blazers converted 29 of 33 attempts from the charity stripe. LaMarcus Aldridge and Damien Lillard combined for 54 points in that game, which was graded a pick’em in the NBA betting odds.
There is no question that the Pacers are catching the Blazers at the right time. This is a team that is averaged almost 108 points per game this season, but over their last five they have tallied slightly less than 92 per contest. During this stretch they have shot 39.4% from the field, so it is clear that something is not in rhythm. As a result of this underachievement on offense, Portland has played seven of its last eight games under the total as it is posted in the basketball betting lines.
There isn’t a team in the NBA that can match what Indiana has done on its home floor. They have compiled a 23-2 straight up record, and have covered 17 of 25 games against the pointspread. Part of the reason for this is that Frank Vogel’s team has allowed the opposition to shoot just 39.4%, which, coincidentally, is what Portland has shot over the last five games. The Blazers have also lost four of their last five games on the road. And even as they broke a four-game losing streak as a visitor at Madison Square Garden against the New York Knicks two nights ago, they could only manage 38% accuracy.
Indiana has won four of its last five games and ten of its last 13. They last saw action on Tuesday night, as they overcame 19 turnovers to beat the Atlanta Hawks 89-85, covering as a 3.5-point favorite in the basketball odds. They got 22 points from David West, who took advantage of a thin Atlanta front line. One thing VietBet customers can count on from the Pacers is that there are a lot of members of this ensemble who can hurt the opposition, and they are very strong and assertive up front.
Portland has reversed a couple of meaningful trends that they had established in the early going. One of them is that after starting out the season with an 18-6 record against the points, they have covered just eight of their last 25 games in NBA betting. Also, they had played 29 out of their first 41 games over the total before this latest run of unders. These are things you may want to take into consideration as you make your basketball picks for Friday night in the NBA.
