The MLB betting action goes on Saturday, May 7, with plenty of interesting markets to choose from, so we’re taking a closer look at the American League showdown from Yankee Stadium in New York to get you the best Rangers vs. Yankees betting pick along with the latest odds update on BetOnline Sportsbook.

Friday night’s opener of a three-game set at Yankee Stadium was postponed due to bad weather, so the Rangers and Yankees will start their series Saturday afternoon, while Sunday brings a twin bill.

The Rangers shoot for their fifth straight W

The Texas Rangers improved to 10-14 on the season following a 2-1 victory in ten innings at Philadelphia this past Wednesday. It was their fourth win in a row, as the Rangers swept a two-game interleague set against the Phillies on the road just a couple of days after winning a three-game home series against the Atlanta Braves.

Texas ranks 12th in the majors in runs scored per game (4.33), 24th in batting average (.224), and 23rd in OPS (.632). On the other side, the Rangers own a 4.23 ERA (25th), but in the last two weeks, they’ve registered a sharp 2.69 ERA and .187 batting average against.

Dane Dunning will take the hill Saturday at Yankee Stadium, hoping to build on his last week’s performance against the Braves. The 27-year-old right-hander held the reigning champions to just one earned run across 7.2 innings. The former first-round pick is 1-1 with a serviceable 3.81 ERA and 1.31 WHIP in five starts (26 innings) in 2022.

The Yankees just stopped their 11-game win streak

The New York Yankees put an end to their 11-game winning streak last Wednesday but still managed to win their fifth straight series. They suffered a 2-1 defeat at the Toronto Blue Jays, falling to 18-7 on the young season.

The Yanks boast the best record in the MLB. They rank fourth in the majors in runs scored per game (4.76), fifth in batting average (.248), and second in OPS (.746). New York owns the second-lowest ERA in baseball (2.60) and will start its top ace Saturday against the Rangers.

Gerrit Cole was projected to take the mound Friday, and the 31-year-old righty will be pushed back to Saturday. Cole is 2-0 in five starts this season (24 innings pitched). He carries a 3.00 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and 27/10 K/BB ratio.

Trends:

Texas:

  • 0-6 in the last six games against the Yankees

NY Yankees:

  • 11-1 in the last 12 games overall
  • 7-0 in the last seven games at home
  • 5-0 in the last five home games against Texas

Texas Rangers vs. New York Yankees Pick

Gerrit Cole aims for his third consecutive victory. Over his previous two showings, Cole hasn’t allowed a single run across 12.2 innings of work while striking out 15 in the process. The Yankees’ offense has done a superb job so far this season, so I’m backing the hosts to come out on top.

Furthermore, the Yanks’ relief pitching has been outstanding over the previous ten days, posting a sharp 1.99 ERA and 2.65 FIP. If Gerrit Cole puts on another strong performance, the hosts shouldn’t have any problems beating the Rangers.

Pick: Take New York Yankees

The Total:

I’ve mentioned how good the Yankees and Rangers have pitched over the last couple of weeks. It’s hard to trust Dane Dunning and the Rangers’ bullpen in this matchup, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they start to struggle against the Yankees’ red-hot lineup that is full of dangerous bats.

The current Yanks have a .771 OPS in 21 at-bats against Dunning. On the other side, the current Rangers are 14-for-72 with four home runs and a .676 OPS against Cole. I would stick with the hosts to win.
