The 2022 MLB season goes on Friday, May 6, with a full 15-game card, including the opening clash of a three-game series at Yankee Stadium in New York, so we bring you the best Rangers vs. Yankees betting pick and odds.

Texas meets New York for the first time in 2022, and the Rangers are winless in six straight dates with the Yanks. According to BetDSI Sportsbook, the Yankees opened as heavy -212 moneyline favorites for Friday’s game, while the Rangers were listed as +193 road dogs with a total of 7.0 runs.

The Rangers shoot for their fifth straight W

The Texas Rangers (10-14) are rolling on a four-game winning streak following a 2-1 victory in ten innings at the Phillies this past Wednesday. After winning a three-game road series against the reigning champions, the Atlanta Braves, the Rangers swept a two-game road set versus Philadelphia.

Texas is scoring 4.33 runs per game (12th in the majors) on a .224/.293/.340 triple-slash (.232/.306/.370 league average). Over their last five outings, the Rangers have scored 21 runs on a .227/.304/.350 slash line. Marcus Semien (.179 avg) is still searching for his first home run in 2022, while Kyle Seager has seven hits and three home runs in his last 23 at-bats.

On the pitching side of things, the Rangers own a 4.23 ERA (25th), 1.30 WHIP (22nd), and .235 batting average against (tied-18th). Still, they’ve registered a pristine 2.69 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and .187 batting average over the last two weeks. Glenn Otto will take the hill Friday in New York, and the 26-year-old righty is 1-0 with a 2.89 ERA and 0.96 WHIP in a couple of starts in 2022.

The Yankees just stopped their 11-game win streak

The New York Yankees (18-7) are coming off a 2-1 loss at the Toronto Blue Jays this past Wednesday. The Yanks put an end to their 11-game winning streak, but they still won their fifth consecutive series. New York owns the best record in the majors, topping the AL East two and a half games above the Blue Jays.

The Yankees are tallying 4.76 runs per contest (tied-2nd in the MLB) on a .248/.323/.424 slash line. They lead the big leagues in home runs (35) and OPS+ (121). Over the last couple of weeks, the Yankees have recorded a .827 OPS (1st) and a 2.68 ERA (3rd).

Gerrit Cole will get the ball Friday, and the 31-year-old righty is 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA, 3.85 FIP, and 1.17 WHIP in five starts (24 innings) this season. Cole hasn’t allowed a single run over his last two outings and 12.2 frames of work versus Cleveland and Kansas City. He’s 5-3 with a 4.14 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in 11 career starts against Texas.

Trends:

Texas:

  • 0-6 in the last six games against the Yankees

NY Yankees:

  • 11-1 in the last 12 games overall
  • 7-0 in the last seven games at home
  • 5-0 in the last five home games against Texas

Texas Rangers vs. New York Yankees Pick

The current Rangers are only 14-for-72 with a .676 OPS against Gerrit Cole. Last year, Cole was charged for a loss in a 5-2 defeat at Texas, allowing five earned runs across five innings. Corey Seager is 3-for-10 against Cole, while Marcus Semien has three home runs in 29 at-bats versus Gerrit, though he’s batting only .172.

On the other side, Glenn Otto will face the Yankees for the first time in his career. Otto has done a good job through his first two starts of the season, but working against the red-hot Yanks lineup might be a tricky job. Eight of New York’s last nine wins have come by two or more runs.

Pick: Take New York Yankees -1.5 at -105

The Total:

I don’t trust the Rangers’ pitching staff despite their good run of form. Glenn Otto is in the 22nd percentile in hard-hit rate. The Yankees are swinging a hot bat, so we could easily see eight or more runs on the scoreboard.

New York has scored five or more runs in eight of its previous 11 contests. Also, the Yankees have slugged ten home runs over their last six showings. On the other hand, New York’s bullpen has recorded a sparkly 1.07 ERA and 2.11 FIP in that six-game stretch.

Pick: Go over 7.0 runs at -115
