Pointspread: Syracuse -3
Total Line: 126
Syracuse made it perfectly clear that it is more than capable of winning it all this season with a dominating 61-50 victory over No.1 Indiana as a five-point underdog this last Thursday night in the Sweet 16 Round. The Orange are now 6-1 straight-up in their last seven games and 4-3 against the spread. The total stayed UNDER the 135.5-point line against the Hoosiers and it has now stayed UNDER in three of their last five games.
They face a familiar foe in this game since both teams currently reside in the Big East, but the Orange came up short in a 74-71 loss to Marquette as 1.5-point road favorites in the only previous meeting this season. Overall, they are 5-3 SU in the last eight games against Marquette but they have failed to cover in the last five. Michael-Carter Williams scored a game-high 24 points against Indiana but it will be up Brandon Triche and CJ Fair to get this team to the Final Four.
The Golden Eagles needed a dramatic comeback against Davidson in their tournament debut with a last-second 59-58 victory as 3.5-point favorite, but they left little doubt they belong in Saturday’s Elite 8 Round with a dominating 71-61 victory over No.2 Miami as 5.5-point underdogs in a game that was not nearly as close as the final 10-point spread. Marquette has had its issues covering ATS as well with a 1-4-1 record in its last six games. The total has gone OVER in four of its last five games.
Vander Blue and Davante Gardner each scored 14 points against the Hurricanes but Jamil Wilson led the team with 16 points after averaging 9.9 points a game during the regular season. The Golden Eagles are averaging 69 points a game but they have hit or exceeded this total in five of their eight games; winning seven of them SU.
This should be a close, hard-fought battle between two conference opponents that know how to play defense as well as put points on the board. The five-point spread is a bit generous considering how close these two matchup against one another making this game an excellent opportunity to take the Orange and the points.
