Two teams with somewhat of a grudge between them will be clashing against one another on Friday, November 10th, when Sweden will play host to Italy in the World Cup Qualifiers last knock-out round. Sweden managed to score 8 goals in their penultimate match in the Qualifiers, and eventually finished at the 2nd spot thanks to that production. Italy were in a Group with Spain, and even though they failed to challenge the top spot, they easily finished at the 2nd.
Sweden Preview :
Sweden were stunning in their penultimate match in the Group Stage Qualifiers, where they destroyed Luxembourg by a massive 8-0 at home. That win pushed them at the 2nd spot of Group A, and it would take a 7-0 loss to the Netherlands in the final match-day to leave them eliminated.
Even though they did eventually lose to the Netherlands, they only did so by a slim 2-0, and Sweden managed to hold on to the 2nd spot (6-1-3).
They were really strong at home (4-1-0), where they might have been stuck at a 1-1 draw against the Netherlands, but they defeated France by 2-1, and all their other matches with clean sheets.
Sweden would really like to reach the World Cup, as they were really uninspiring in last year’s EURO Cup, where they finished win-less after 3 matches in the Group Stage (0-1-2).
Italy Preview :
Italy had mixed luck in the World Cup Qualifiers, as they were drawn into Group G along with Spain, among others. That meant that the top spot would much likely not be theirs, but with Albania, Israel, FYROM and Liechtenstein, the 2nd spot was easy to take.
Italy finished with a 7-2-1 record, losing only to Spain (and drawing once), while their other draw was a 1-1 against FYROM at home.
They were also really strong on the road (4-0-1), where they suffered their only loss, but other than that, they defeated Albania and Liechtenstein with clean sheets.
While just one of their 5 home matches featured Over 2.5 Goals, Italy produced a lot of goals in their road matches, with just one featuring Under 2.5 Goals.
Sweden vs Italy Head-to-Head Stats :
These two teams have a long history between them, with Italy just slightly having the upper hand in competitive matches (5-2-4).
However, it is Sweden who have been dominant as hosts against Italy, having not only gone undefeated in 3 matches (2-1-0), but they have kept 3 clean sheets as well.
Sweden are haunting Italy’s dreams, as the two teams met in the 2004 EURO Cup. The two teams were tied at 1-1, but Sweden played for a very convenient 2-2 draw against neighbours Denmark in the final match in the group stage.
That was the only result that would see both Sweden and Denmark through, as Italy were left 3rd in a triple tie, and were eliminated.
The two teams also met in the EURO Cup last year, where Italy defeated Sweden by a slim 1-0, leaving them in the bottom spot, while they themselves topped the group.
Sweden vs Italy Prediction :
Italy have undergone some serious re-vamp in their roster, and the new team is much more exciting than the old defensive stalwart. Sweden also have a bunch of really talented players, and they will surely fight for a positive result here. Italy are not known for their tough defense anymore, and neither are Sweden.
Sweden vs Italy Betting Tips :
Italy will surely be very careful in this match, and we just might not see a ton of goals. However, it is in the nature of both teams to both score, and concede a lot of goals, so I will gladly go with Both Teams to Score here @ 2.05.
