The Pac-12 North is one of the most competitive divisions in college football this year, and two of the teams that have their sights set on the Rose Bowl this year are going to clash on Saturday night, as the Stanford Cardinal pay a visit to the Oregon State Beavers.

The Cardinal know that they are going to have to run the table in all likelihood to be able to get into the Pac-12 Championship Game, but they are still concerned with the National Championship picture as well. They shot back into the Top 10 this week a week after getting beaten by the Utah Utes and removed from the Top 5. This would be a huge win on the road if the team was to get it, as there is a lot more than just the game against the Oregon Ducks left to play. The calling card of this team was its defense coming into the season, but after allowing at least 27 points in three Pac-12 games, it was about time to see the unit step up. The defense held down the UCLA Bruins and their Heisman Trophy candidate of a quarterback in QB Brett Hundley to just a total of 10 points last week in one of the biggest games of the day, and Head Coach David Shaw knows that he is going to need this unit to be big in this game as well. The offense hasn’t put up more than 31 in three straight games, and though that’s a great number, it’s going to be tough against this Oregon State defense to get much in the way of traction.

Poor Oregon State started off the season ranked in the Top 25 in the land, but its one loss to the Eastern Washington Eagles is one that the team isn’t living down. This is a team that is ranked in the Top 10 in the country right now if not for that defeat. The Beavs have rolled off six straight wins, including doing something that this Stanford team couldn’t: Beat Utah on the road. Four of the last five games have been on the road, and the last three games have all come with massive victories. QB Sean Mannion has this team believing that it can get back into the hunt for the Rose Bowl, and it’s going to take winning a game like this one to get the job done. Mannion has thrown for 2,992 yards already this season with a stunning 29 TDs against three picks. The Beavers can’t run the football and don’t really even try all that much, and why would they? Mannion is clearly a man amongst boys out there, and there is a reason that this team is averaging over 440 passing yards per game, the top mark in the land.

Be very careful, Stanford! This is a game that we think the wrong team is favored in. The Beavers are rolling right now, and they have outdone their foes by at least 200 yards and at least 20 points in three consecutive games. This won’t be an easy one, but it will be one where OSU scores the big victory to proclaim once and for all that they are back and are back as national powers once again.
