Sports Betting Tips – Covering the Spread for February 8, 2018

Last Updated: 2018-02-08

Pitchers and catchers will be reporting soon for Spring Training, which means baseball bettors everywhere will get their first look at how teams stack up against each other before the MLB regular season begins. World Series future odds were updated here at BangTheBook.com three weeks ago while Win Totals from CG Technology were just released on Tuesday.

The defending World Series champion Houston Astros look to be even stronger this year thanks to the addition of starting pitcher Gerrit Cole, who will join Dallas Keuchel and Justin Verlander to form one of the best rotations in baseball. Houston’s Win Total is curently listed at 96.5, which is the highest on the betting board, and rightfully so. After the Astros though, the Los Angeles Dodgers sit at 95.5 as the defending National League champions. Then, the Cleveland Indians, New York Yankees and Chicago Cubs are all at 93.5, with each of them making the playoffs last season.

Of course the Yankees are the most intriguing team, at least offensively. Adding Giancarlo Stanton gives the Bronx Bombers the most dangerous lineup in baseball, although pitching tends to be the difference come October. Houston and Cleveland still have the best staffs in the American League right now.

Adam Burke has a number of early MLB Win Total picks already, and he backs them up well with solid analysis. I suggest checking them out now if you have not yet, and then make sure to do follow free agency closely over the next month or so to see where the last few prized players land.

Popular public teams like the Cubs might be worth betting Under if they do not add any arms to their starting rotation. Another squad that may be undervalued in the NL is the Washington Nationals at 91.5. The Nationals rival the Dodgers with their rotation, and they might finally be able to win a playoff series for the first time this season with Dave Martinez taking over as their manager. The Boston Red Sox also have a new manager in Alex Cora, who comes over from Houston, where he served as the bench coach. Martinez and Cora are highly respected and could be difference makers for their teams.
