Spain had a rather easy job in the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers, as they comfortably topped Group G, winning 9 of their 10 matches. As other teams are now playing the last play-off matches, Spain will play host to Costa Rica on Saturday, November 11th. Costa Rica also secured their presence in the World Cup rather easily, and the two teams will now test their strengths in an international friendly.
Spain Preview :
Spain were dominant in yet another qualifying phase, as they easily topped Group G of the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers in Europe (9-1-0). Their only loss of points came from the 1-1 draw against Italy on October 9th last year, but they easily won all the other matches.
Spain scored a whopping 36 goals in those 10 matches, while conceding just 3 in the process. Diego Costa, Isco, Morata and Silva were the leading scorers for Spain, bagging 5 goals each.
Moreover, they won all 5 matches at home, scoring 22 goals in the process, against just 1 conceded.
Spain have traditionally been dominant at home, where their only two losses in the last 3 years have been in friendlies, against Georgia and Germany, both by the same 0-1 score.
Costa Rica Preview :
Costa Rica might have failed to win any of their last 3 matches in the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers, but they still managed to finish at the 2nd spot of the Hexagonal (4-4-2). They had t he 3rd best offense with 14 goals, and the 2nd best defense with 8 conceded.
They were so and so on the road (2-1-2), where they might have lost to Panama and Mexico, but they defeated USA and Trinidad & Tobago with clean sheets.
Those two road wins have been their only ones in their last 7 matches in all competitions (2-2-3), failing to keep a single clean sheet in the other 5 matches.
Costa Rica also participated in the Gold Cup this past summer, where after going through the group phase (2-1-0), they defeated Panama in the quarter-finals, only to be eliminated in the semis to USA.
Spain vs Costa Rica Head-to-Head Stats :
The two teams have only met on international friendlies in the past, where they played for a 2-2 draw in Costa Rica in 2011, before a 2-1 Spain win at home back in 2015.
Costa Rica have taken the lead in both those matches, but Spain managed to pull even on one occasion, while they overturned the result in the other.
Spain vs Costa Rica Prediction :
Spain showed a really good defense in the World Cup Qualifiers, where they only conceded 3 goals. Costa Rica are generally pretty competitive on the road, scoring in most of their matches. Since this is a friendly match, we might see new players get tested here, but as usual, we could see an open match here.
Spain vs Costa Rica Betting Tips :
Considering the fact that these two teams have really productive offensive lines, I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw Over 2.5 Goals here, but it is the Over 2.75 Goals @ 1.63 that provides some value.
