Date : 10/11/2017
Time : 13:00 EDT (18:00 GMT)
Spread : Senegal +0.0
Total : 2 Goals
Now let’s take a look at a really weird match coming from the CAF section of the World Cup Qualifiers, where South Africa will play host to Senegal. The two teams actually played that match back in November last year, where South Africa won by 2-1. However, FIFA ordered the match to be re-played, as referee Lamptey was found guilty of “unlawfully influencing match results”. Only the top team of each Group qualifies to the World Cup, and at this point all 4 teams are still in the chase of the top spot.
South Africa Preview :
South Africa (1-1-2) started the World Cup Qualifiers with a really frustrating 1-1 draw on the road against Burkina Faso, in a match where they were equalized in the stoppage time.
After that they suffered yet another frustrating result when they saw Cape Verde overturn the lead in their favor, to eventually defeat them by 2-1 on the road.
Moreover, South Africa lost the other match at home against Cape Verde by the same 1-2 score at home this time, but managed to bounce back with a strong 3-1 at home against Burkina Faso.
South Africa are currently sitting at the bottom of Group D with 4 points, but they still have mathematical chances to top the group. However, that would require a lot of results to go their way.
There have been Over 2.5 Goals in 3 of their 4 matches, while the same stat showed up in the annulled 2-1 win back in November.
Senegal Preview :
Senegal (2-2-0) have been excellent in the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers so far, as they have yet to record a single loss. Well, they did lost to South Africa by 2-1, but the referee of the match awarded South Africa a non-existent penalty kick.
The Senegalese Federation pushed for an investigation, and they were eventually awarded a re-match of that fateful match.
Senegal have a really good roster, with the likes of West Ham’s Sakho and Kouyate, Everton’s Gueye, Monaco’s Diao, Liverpool’s Mane, LA Galaxy’s Diop and a lot more talented players in their roster.
So far, Senegal have already defeated Cape Verde twice by the same 0-2 and 2-0 score respectively. Moreover, they have been held to a couple of draws against Burkina Faso, by 0-0 at home, before a 2-2 on the road.
They will now have to play a couple of matches against South Africa, a seemingly lesser team.
South Africa vs Senegal Head-to-Head Stats :
The two teams have only met on two occasions in the past, both for the Africa Cup of Nations, where both matches were 1-1 draws.
The two teams also met last November for the World Cup Qualifiers, and even though South Africa won by 2-1, the match was set to be re-played after the referee awarded a penalty kick for a nonexistent hand-ball.
South Africa vs Senegal Prediction :
Senegal will know better to be more careful in this match, as they can even qualify as the top seed with a draw here if results go their way. In any case, they have two matches against South Africa, and winning any of the two will see them through to the World Cup.
South Africa vs Senegal Betting Tips :
Senegal should be pretty happy with the Draw here @ 2.95, as they can qualify as first if the results of the other match in the group is a draw. Senegal have the best goal difference so far in the group, and they will like to keep it that way. South Africa will try to see out their chances, but they will need to defeat Senegal twice in order to qualify. There is also a chance to see goals from both sides here @ 2.00.
