The NCAAB action on Sunday, February 12, will conclude with this conference tilt in Wichita, and here you can check out the best Mustangs vs. Shockers betting pick and odds.

SMU is hoping to get the second win in a row for the first time in 2023 when they visit Wichita at Charles Koch Arena. The Shockers are -6.5 favorites on BetOnline Sportsbook, while the total is set at 136.5 points. These American foes have met 20 days ago in Dallas, and the Shockers won 71-69.

Mustangs edged Temple at home

The SMU Mustangs (9-16, 8-16-1 ATS) returned home from a two-game road trip on which they suffered defeats to the Tulane Green Wave and East Carolina Pirates. The Mustangs avoided the third straight loss with a narrow 72-71 victory over the Temple Owls in a nervy finish. Sophomore guard Zhuric Phelps made one of two free throws in the dying seconds to give a win to the Mustangs. Temple was actually better in the offensive department, but SMU forced 19 turnovers and committed 11 in return, while the hosts had 12 steals opposite the Owls’ five.

Zhuric Phelps led the Mustangs with 19 points, team-high five assists, and game-high four steals. Efe Odigie posted a double-double of ten points and game-high 11 rebounds along with a pair of thefts – his fifth double-double of the campaign – while Samuell Williamson contributed ten points, six boards, and two steals off the bench.

Shockers lost to UCF at home

The Wichita State Shockers (12-12, 12-11-1 ATS) are in a hot and cold form recently. The Shockers lost four of the previous seven games, including the most recent one to the UCF Knights at home. Wichita State suffered the third consecutive home defeat after allowing 42 second-half points and making just four three-pointers opposite UCF’s 12. Despite shooting 51.1% from the field, the Shockers committed five more turnovers than the visitors (18-13) and fell short 72-67.

Senior guard Craig Porter Jr. led the Shockers with 19 points, game-high seven assists, and six rebounds. Jaron Pierre Jr. added 14 points, game-high eight boards, and two steals, James Rojas scored 12, while Jaykwon Walton chipped in 11 points and four dimes.

Trends:

SMU:

  • 4-1-1 ATS in the last six games following an ATS win

Wichita State:

  • 1-8 ATS in the last nine home games
  • 6-20-1 ATS in the last 27 home games vs. a team with a losing road record

SMU Mustangs vs. Wichita State Shockers Pick

Both sides have inefficient offenses that average below 70 points per game, and even though the Shockers have a stronger defense, I am going with the visitors here. Wichita State did win each of the previous six H2H duels, and I am not saying the Shockers are going to lose on Sunday, but I believe the Mustangs can cover. The Shockers lost three straight home games, so SMU certainly has a chance in this one. Zhuric Phelps scored in double figures in seven of his last eight games, and I am backing him to have another strong outing.

Pick: Take the Mustangs at +8.5 (-130)

The Total

The rivals combined for 140 points in the latest H2H encounter, and I expect a similar scenario here when it comes to total points. SMU allowed 71+ points in each of the previous seven games, while the Shockers surrendered 70 in each of their last five games. This one could go down to the wire, while potential overtime is on the cards. Over is 13-3 in the Mustangs’ last 16 overall; Over is 5-1 in SMU’s previous six road games, Over is 10-1 in the Shockers’ last 11 overall, while Over is 4-0 in Wichita State’s previous four home games.Pick: Go Over 134.5 points (-130)
