The 2022 MLB season continues Tuesday, June 21, and we are taking a closer look at the AL West showdown from Oakland Coliseum to get you the best Mariners vs. Athletics betting pick and odds.

Seattle and Oakland start a three-game series in California, and the Mariners are listed as -139 moneyline favorites on Bookmaker Sportsbook. These two foes already met each other in May, and the Athletics beat the Mariners in a three-game set at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, 2-1.

The Mariners lost three straight series

The Seattle Mariners are on a three-game losing streak following a 4-0 defeat to the Los Angeles Angels this past Sunday. They’ve failed to score for the second straight outing, recording the seventh loss in their last nine showings.

Seattle has gone 5-9 in its previous 14 games at any location despite posting a sharp 3.00 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and .215 opposing batting average. The M’s desperately need more from their offense. They’ve scored 42 runs in that 14-game stretch while slashing a poor .204/.298/.322 across 460 at-bats.

Marco Gonzales will take the mound Tuesday at Oakland Coliseum and face the A’s for the second time this season. The 30-year-old southpaw yielded five earned runs on eight hits across 5.1 frames of work on May 23 and still grabbed a win in a 7-6 home victory over the Athletics. Gonzales is 3-7 with a 3.41 ERA and 1.31 WHIP in 13 starts (68.2 innings) in 2022.

The Athletics dropped seven sets in a row

Since beating the Mariners in a three-game series in Seattle, the Oakland Athletics have lost seven consecutive sets. Last Sunday, they defeated the Kansas City Royals 4-0 to avoid a sweep in a three-game series at Oakland Coliseum.

The A’s have been pretty much awful over the last few weeks. They are 3-13 in June, scoring 42 runs on an abysmal .198/.254/.337 slash line while posting a pedestrian 5.03 ERA, 1.57 WHIP, and .286 batting average against.

James Kaprielian will toe the slab Tuesday and meet the Mariners for the second time in 2022. The 28-year-old righty pitched five innings in a no-decision against Seattle on May 24, yielding five earned runs on seven hits and a walk. Kaprielian is 0-4 with a calamitous 6.31 ERA, 6.49 FIP, and 1.50 WHIP in nine starts (41.1 innings) this season.

Trends:

Seattle:

  • 13-2 in the last 15 games against Oakland

Oakland:

  • 3-15 in the last 18 games overall
  • 2-12 in the last 14 games at home
  • 0-6 in the last six home games against Seattle

Seattle Mariners vs. Oakland Athletics Pick

The Mariners are arguably a better team than the Athletics, and they desperately need to prove it on the field. If they want to stay alive in the playoff chase, the M’s have to beat the lowly A’s. Seattle is undefeated in six straight outings at Oakland Coliseum, and I’m backing the Mariners to grab another win in California.

Marco Gonzales hasn’t impressed thus far, but James Kaprielian is having a really bad season. The current Mariners are slashing .320/.379/.558 in 44 at-bats versus Kaprielian, so I’m expecting Seattle’s offense to break out of its slump.

Pick: Take Seattle Mariners at -139

The Total:

Both teams are slumping at the plate, but that could easily change when Marco Gonzales and James Kaprielian take the mound Tuesday. I’ve mentioned the Mariners’ strong record against Kaprielian, while the A’s are hitting .256/.295/.341 in 141 at-bats versus Gonzales.

On the other hand, both bullpens have done a decent job in the last ten days of action. The Mariners have recorded a 3.86 ERA and .245 BABIP across 39.2 frames, while the Athletics have posted a 2.89 ERA and .282 BABIP through 28 innings. I lean toward the over because of the starting duo, but Seattle to win remains my best Mariners vs. Athletics betting pick.
