The 2021-22 college basketball season goes on Friday, February 4, 2022, with the marquee Mountain West Conference showdown at Moby Arena in Fort Collins, Colorado, so we have prepared the best San Diego State vs. Colorado State betting pick and odds.
The Aztecs face off against the Rams for the second time this season. Back on January 8, San Diego State dismantled Colorado State 79-49 as a small 2.5-point home favorite. The Rams are 2.5-point road dogs this time around, while the totals sit at 129.0 points on BetOnline Sportsbook.
San Diego State hopes to stay on the winning track
The San Diego State Aztecs haven’t been at their best lately, dropping two of their previous four games overall. After a two-week break caused by COVID-19, the Aztecs have gone 2-2 SU and ATS, playing in quite a shaky form.
During that four-game stretch, the Aztecs have lost to Boise State 42-37 as 4.5-point home favorites and at Utah State 75-57 as 1-point road favorites. They’ve also defeated UNLV 80-55 as 10.5-point home favorites and New Mexico 72-47 as 14.5-point home favorites. Senior guard Matt Bradley continues to lead the way for the Aztecs, averaging 16.0 points and 5.1 rebounds per game, while another senior G Trey Pulliam adds 8.6 points and 3.5 assists a night.
San Diego State is 4-2 in the conference play following that easy win over the Lobos, occupying the fourth spot of the Mountain West Conference standings. The Aztecs score 101.2 points per 100 possessions (205th in the country) and surrender only 85.1 in a return (2nd). They are No. 45 in the latest NCAA NET Rankings and No. 32 in KenPom rankings.
Colorado State looks to stop its two-game slide
The Colorado State Rams fell to 16-3 straight up and 9-9 ATS on the season following an 84-78 overtime loss at the Wyoming Cowboys this past Monday. It was their second consecutive defeat, as the Rams suffered a massive upset last week, losing as 14.5-point home favorites to UNLV 88-74.
Junior guards David Roddy and Isaiah Stevens lead the charge for the Rams. While Stevens went off for 35 points and eight rebounds in that shocking defeat to UNLV, Roddy had 23 points in a loss to the Cowboys.
Colorado State is now 6-3 in the conference play, sitting at the third spot of the MWC standings. The Rams are No. 39 in the NCAA NET Rankings and No. 50 in the KenPom rankings. They score 114.3 points per 100 possessions (18th in the country) and surrender 100.4 in a return (134th).
Trends:
San Diego State:
- 6-2 ATS in the last eight games overall
- 4-0-1 ATS in the last five road games against Colorado State
Colorado State:
- 3-6 ATS in the last nine games overall
- 2-6 ATS in the last eight games against San Diego State
- 0-11-1 ATS in the last 12 games played on Friday
San Diego State vs. Colorado State Pick
With the Aztecs playing in an iffy form and the Rams trying to snap their two-game skid, it’s tough to predict the outcome. Also, we’ll see the clash of the two different styles. The Aztecs heavily lean on their defense, while the Rams are an offensive-minded side.
I’ll lean on the Aztecs’ stout D to make the difference in this matchup. Last month, San Diego State beat Colorado State by 30 points, holding the Rams to a paltry 49 points, but Friday’s clash at Moby Arena should be way tighter than the previous duel between the Aztecs and Rams.
Pick: Take San Diego State +2.5 at -110
The Total:
I’ve mentioned how different these two teams are, but they both prefer to play at a slow pace. The Rams record 67.3 possessions per 40 minutes (184th in the country), while the Aztecs register only 66.0 (265th).
Hereof, I’m going with the under on the totals. San Diego State will look to slow things as much as possible and force the Rams into tough shots. The under is 12-5 in the Aztecs’ last 17 outings at any location, and it is 9-3 in the Rams’ previous 12 games overall.
Pick: Go under 129.0 points at -110
