The 2022 MLB season goes on Saturday, July 2, with the NL West showdown from Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, so we have prepared the best Padres vs. Dodgers betting pick along with the latest odds update on BetDSI Sportsbook

LA beat San Diego 3-1 last Thursday to start a four-game set at home. Friday’s clash has been excluded from the analysis, while the Dodgers open as -140 moneyline favorites for Saturday’s battle.

The Padres struggled in Manny Machado’s return from an ankle injury

After missing nine games due to an ankle injury, Manny Machado returned to the Padres’ lineup in Thursday’s loss to the Dodgers. The five-time All-Star went 1-for-4 with a double and three strikeouts, while the Padres scored only one run on seven hits.

San Diego fell to 46-32 on the season, and the Padres have won just two of their previous seven games overall. They’ve slashed just .234/.314/.374 in the last couple of weeks while compiling a 4.32 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and .228 opposing batting average.

Yu Darvish will toe the slab Saturday at Dodger Stadium. The veteran right-hander is 7-3 with a nice 3.26 ERA, 3.20 FIP, 0.98 WHIP, and 75/18 K/BB ratio in 14 starts (88.1 innings) in 2022. Darvish has been excellent in his previous four appearances, allowing only five runs on 18 hits across 28 frames of work.

The Dodgers once more won on the back of their pitching

After a rough three-game series at Coors Field in Denver, the Los Angeles Dodgers enjoyed Thursday’s home battle against the Padres. Mitch White got the starting call and threw 4.2 frames of a one-run ball, while four relievers kept the Padres scoreless.

The Dodgers improved their NL-best record to 47-28. They’ve posted a firm 3.00 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in the last two weeks and 13 games, while the Dodgers’ offense has accounted for 64 runs on a strong .275/.329/.470 triple-slash.

Tyler Anderson will take the mound Saturday and face the Padres for the second time this term. The 32-year-old left-hander yielded a couple of runs across 4.2 frames in a no-decision against San Diego on April 23. Anderson is 8-1 with a 3.23 ERA and 1.04 WHIP in 12 starts and two relief appearances in 2022. Last Monday, he was charged for a loss in a 4-0 defeat at the Rockies, allowing four earned runs on ten hits through six frames of work.

Trends:

San Diego:

  • 1-5 in the last six games on the road
  • 1-12 in the last 13 games against the Dodgers

LA Dodgers:

  • 7-3 in the last ten games overall
  • 12-3 in the last 15 home games against San Diego

San Diego Padres vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Pick

The Padres have struggled at the plate lately, so I lean the Dodgers in this game even though Tyler Anderson has allowed 13 runs in his last four starts and 22.1 frames of work. The current Padres lineup has 24 hits and .766 OPS in 91 at-bats against Anderson, while the current Dodgers have only 16 hits and .495 OPS in 95 at-bats versus Yu Darvish.

However, the Dodgers have a couple of guys who should hit Darvish hard. Freddie Freeman is 4-for-13 with a home run and three walks in 16 plate appearances against Yu, while Trea Turner is 5-for-11 with a homer versus the Padres’ ace.

Pick: Take Los Angeles Dodgers at -140

The Total:

If both starting pitchers do a solid job, we shouldn’t see a high-scoring affair. The Dodgers’ bullpen has recorded a shiny 2.17 ERA and 2.86 FIP in the last ten days and 37.1 innings of work, while the Padres’ bullpen has accounted for a 3.00 ERA and 3.46 FIP across 30 frames in that span.

The under is 7-5-1 in the previous 13 encounters between the Padres and Dodgers. I lean toward the under, but you never know whit these two offenses.

Pick: Go under 7.5 runs at -120
